I'm not going to call this a negative account, let's call it a cautionary tale...

Want to share my experience with this fairly new retailer, they're getting more and more attention because of deals they're offering new customers lately (discounts even on MAP brands, shipping deals etc). I was sucked in and, well frankly my experience sucked!

I need to mention right at the outset that I did end up getting a refund in the end, but the whole ordeal was a royal PITA and I'd like to help others avoid it.

Cliff notes version :

I bought a Spyderco GB 2 from them, got MAP price minus another 15% and free shipping. They didn't make it clear at all that it was being drop shipped (shipped by a 3rd party), I wouldn't have bought had I known.

They gave me an estimated delivery window, said I would get tracking # once shipped. Most of a week passed, nothing. I start calling, their CS is friendly but totally useless...I've never been told "sorry we have idea" so many different ways in my life. Also, they can't cancel an order more than 30 mins after it's placed. Finally 3 weeks pass, no shipment info, no package. I'm calling CS literally every day at this point and getting nowhere. The hilarious part is that the merchant they use won't respond to their inquiries!

They finally agree to refund my $$ in 7-10 days, I agree. Next day, their seller sends a tracking # that says it was shipped and delivered almost 2 weeks prior. I never got anything...trust me I was looking, a lot! It said that it was left in my mailbox...I don't have a mailbox. Also I live alone so unless my Labrador picked it up and took it off to Labrador land (where I imagine he goes when I'm not home), no one else got it. I have a mail slot where mail drops directly into my home through the front door. In short, it wasn't delivered.

Finally, Jet basically give up and say they have no clue, merchant won't return THEIR calls or emails and they issue a refund. Which they manage to also screw up...issue a request for one not an actually one... I have to call for literally the 17th time to finally get that fixed and it's over. Finally get my $$ back and knife never shows up.

In short, a cautionary tale...price was good but not worth the hassle. I didn't lose any $$ in the end but I'm borderline hypertensive anyway and this surely didn't help. Major PITA.

Ironically, I ended up getting the same model at MAP from Amazon.

I shouldn't say don't use them, but use my experience as a point of information.

I almost pulled the trigger on a Filson briefcase from them. Price was too good to be true, I hesitated - I'm glad I did. Thanks for the write up. Time will tell with this outfit.

I've ordered from them several times, only food orders. Very pleased. One order didn't make it, they called me, and straightened it out.

I haven't gotten interested in hardware.

I dont think they are a merchant, just an order center. They farm the orders out to other companies, drop shipment style.

I've been extremely pleased with jet.com. I buy from them quite a bit. A lot of pet and cleaning supplies and dry and canned foods. Plus over the counter medicines. So far I've been pretty satisfied.

I've also found their customer service to be very good as well.

I had good experience with Jet, and yes, most orders are drop-shipped. They are a marketplace for merchants to sell their gear. Their working relationship with the merchants is puzzling at best since I've heard merchants going AWOL on Jet.

A buddy ordered headphones only to be told by Jet they were out of stock (they were incorrectly shown in stock) and that they have little control over the merchant behavior. Okay, he ended up getting his money back from Jet and guess what? The headphones showed up too! He called up again and had them charge for the order.

They seem to have logistical issues to straighten out. Last I heard they weren't doing well and losing money, but those can be rumors. Certainly they aren't a competition to Amazon as were made out to be.

They fill a need. For the past few years, I have had medical problems. Grocery shopping can be a real pain. Jet bringing me fresh vegetables, milk, juice, at prices lower than the stores is nice.

Jet fulfills most of their grocery type orders themselves, not the case with knives etc. The big problems are that they don't make that clear up front and seem to have no back end accountability after they charge you.

I can see how this might be frustrating, but honestly no more frustrating then when I've ordered from one of the well known knife dealers on here and the item was out of stock or back ordered and that fact was not reflected on their site at the time I placed the order.

I've had an instance where I placed an order and the knife was no longer in stock, they had no idea when or if it was going to be back in stock, and the worst part is no one notified me of the problem. Only after waiting a week and not seeing my item ship I called and was informed of the problem.

That exact thing happened to my fiancée when she tried to order me an Emerson for a Christmas gift. Placed the order, got charged, never shipped or heard anything. Turns out it went out of stock and they just didn't tell her, fortunately BladeHQ had it and got it to her in time. Finally after she called 3x they're like "oh yeah sorry we should have called".

I'm not naming the dealer specifically but I won't buy from them today, which is why I'm not getting a Manix LW in CTS-XHP...

I have no idea what exactly happened with the Jet issue, sounds like this company they use is no good, I can't imagine they will stay with them if they can't even return Jet's calls.

Didn't they just get bought by Walmart to increase Wally World's presence in the on-line market?

I've only ever ordered a honkin' jar of Jelly Belly from them. It showed up in like two days and I wasn't expecting to see it for a week. Had to un-subscribe from their e-mail because I started getting a couple of posts a day about stuff I had no interest in.

BTW, earlier today I placed an order with jet.com. A couple of hours after I ordered I received an e-mail that one of the items (paper towels) was unavailable. They refunded me the price of the item and gave me a $5 credit for the inconvenience.

That was pretty decent of them!

Jet.com was owned by Amazon. They got bought by Walmart. I have ordered many items from them and had no issues. I would buy from them again in a second

I think the takeaway from this is that buying something actually from Jet is OK, buying from their vendors is hit or miss.

I wish they made it more clear who is actually fulfilling the order, I know you can see it but it's easy to miss, I certainly did at first. Amazon states it plain as day.

I have placed three orders to take advantage of the 15% your first three orders and had zero issues. I looked up each of the3rd party vendors before my purchases to verify they had good feedback.

amazon is tricky. they fulfill orders sometimes from third party pallets. could be counterfeit stuff amazon has gotten so big they cant control anything anymore. a friend who owns a pawn shop was paying for pallets of goods amazon imported them and sold them for him for a big chunk of the money, according to to him he might have been buying questionable stuff he really didnt verify anything since he never touched any of it. this is his story, but im very weary of amazon sold by amazon or third party vendor or fulfilled by amazon or amazon sold but fulfilled by third party vendor.

I actually just placed my second order with them this last week, first one went well and there are some great prices!
