JK fat kephart review, and some new scores!

I really like your review.

Great pics. Got all the specs there action shots "in hand" sort of for scale. Got the price.

Awesome interpretation. Some of the Kepharts seem too long to me or something. That one has really nice proportions from the pics. Also like how he keeps the ricasso really small. I think that really adds to the shape. Great price too. The short one ML makes that Bear has always has been the model I really like but I'd put that one right up there with it. Really well done Stomper!:thumbup:

Wow thanks man, I appriciate the compliment.:o

Good point, the ricasso is really small and that feature, and the overall blade profile are what draws me to the keppy. For the price, I just dont see how you could go wrong with this one. John outdid himself with this one. I have a nessie on order from him too, but like I told him, this is gonna be a hard act to follow!

Hollow,
My ML Keppy is actually the full size, a few guys seem to think it's the short one too.:)

Now I'm REALLY torn between the kephart and the 4" hiker. Also, j, you got me thinkin about 3/16 again. I had pretty much moved over to the 1/8" camp. Now I'm torn on this front too. damn...

They all have their place. This one I wanted to be a little hardcore. I think 3/16 is the max I would go though. The edge is great for a thick blade. I think the keppy is a knife that does real good with the thickness.

It seems everyone moves back and forth from thick to thin. I have always liked a thicker blade, but 1/8 is adequate for most tasks. My nessie from john will be 1/8.

Yeah, that 3/16 on the kephart looked pretty darn good. I just never saw the need for a thicker knife, when I carry my hatchet almost all the time anyway, for the harder stuff. In fact, I've recently taken to carrying just a hatchet, my Vic Outrider, and a backup Opinel #8 (mostly for food prep), when I go out. But I love my 4" models too much to leave them behind all the time. OK, threadjack finished...

I hear ya. I like small to medium fixed blades more than the big ones. I am wantin a HI though. I can say go for 3/16 you wont be disapointed. I think one of those 4in hikers would rock in 3/16.

I think I may have to get both. In 3/16 and 1/8. Man, am I gonna be in dutch with the wife now!

How in the heck did I miss this yesterday !?!?
SWEET Keppy!! I love it!!

Boy, I`m glad everyone seems to like this one. When bear first saw the picture of it I think he called it a KepTac, cause it does look kind of tactical, but still traditional. I will be making more of these, if anyone wants one, but fortunatly for me, it`s no longer only 2 weeks.

John
