JK Tin Knife Fire Kit

Cool kit and nice pictures.

One thought though, should the char cloth and jute be in waterproof bag?
Ideally yes...but I could not find the little tiny bags I had laying around... I think I threw them way on accident. Still a bit of a work in progress.

The magnets are a nice idea, but I would be very careful about putting the tin near a compass.
Just a thought...
Agreed....thanks for bringing that up. I have had the magnets kicking around here for a few weeks and I have been extra careful not to get them near any electronics and the like.

Could I dip my jute twine in regular melted candle wax?
That works just fine too. I just happend to have some beeswax I have been wanting to do something with.

Thanks for the comments on the striker handles, the dark one is walnut, the other poplar, I sent Stomper one in maple, and the on in the kit as I said is oak that I made for a friend. I'll be making more walnut and oak they really came out great. I really had a good time making them, I was a bit impressed at how well they came out, I did not expect that. I just need to get a little machinist vice or my drill press so I can drill the holes at home...I took them to work and drilled these ones.

The cool thing about the Tin knives is the price. For 2009, with every knife ordered from me, they are included free.

I love my tin knife! I had just been wondering how to protect the edge while it was in a tin...the magnets are a fantastic idea!

Nice kit! I especially like the looks of those Ferro rod handles...you've given them so much character.

Thanks, I really don't care much for the typical ferro rod hanlde, they get the job done, but a nice piece of wood and some smooth curves look and feel so much better. Plus they are kind of fun to make, I will definatley be doing it a lot. Thanks again for the compliment. :)
