Job openings

Yes I have and I was very impressed. I was just wondering if, like the ABS, there is an organization that teaches and tests swordmakers.
Hi Keith,

Nobody around doing either. Maybe a testing event for swords at the Blade Show would be a place to start.

Well now.....that's been interesting, now back to jobs.

Daniel, there are several people here that are interested in your Internet Sales Position. They can't relocate but from what I know of them, would be top notch.

This job lends itself to outsourcing. Have you considered that possibility to get the right person for the job ?

I know a fair amount about katana/Japanese styled swords. I know hype and I know performance. I know that the proof is in the cutting. I know that I can afford to cut, and have cut with some swords from most of the better known swordmakers out there (Howard Clark, Don Fogg, Michael Bell, Francis Boyd, Bailey Bradshaw.....) I don't think that I could afford to cut with one of Angel Swords' Living Steel katana at over $10,000, no one that I know has one to let me borrow.
These cuts were all done with my Bright Knight swords in the $2K range. http://www.angelsword.com/videos/videos.php

Rather than just hear hype, let's play and have some fun. I extend an open challenge for anyone with any sword to beat these cuts. Make the cut with matching mats and post the videos. We can have an online competition!

I've looked at it but a lot of the work is the photography and measuring of pieces that I don't have online. I typically finish several pieces a week and try to keep as much of my time in the shop as possible. We all know how much time all the other stuff robs from the actual making. So I try to keep a support crew that let's me do the things that only I can do and that I do best.

Tim,
Your points are well taken. You seem defensive for no reason. Your opinio0n of sword makers and Angel sword are your own and not offensive.

What we dont want here is the issues that Peter brought to light.
I go back to 1999 on the SwordForums where a whole big pile of stuff came up, and I am not going to drag through it here, but it was valid, and never really resolved. :barf:

These are issues we dont need to hash over here. Thats all.
Thanks to Peter for the warning!~

To his discredit, he has never, to my knowledge, had anything technical published a la the Scientific American piece written by Dr. Verhoven/Al Pendray, and the term TechnoWootz rankles me a little.
There are 2 major approaches to the development of new technologies. One is academia where the publishing of papers and open sharing of knowledge is the hallmark.

The other approach is in the private sector in which one tries to develop technologies for in house use which puts one ahead of the field and then hold those techniques secret, or to patent them so they can be licensed out. Publication would destroy either of those possiblities for reaping some reward for all the $$$ put into R&D.

I currently have 9 metallurgical patents pending. But I see where so much more could be done. Thus the call for a research assistant.

I seem to remember this being a free country and a man has the right to price his goods as he see's fit.

Knightsteel, has never been anything but polite in his postings. I've had difference's of opinion with him and he very politely stated his case.

I don't see the need for the attacks.

The same for me.

I dont know this fellow but the things that went on in another fourm in 1999 is not of interest.

I agree with Darrel and Sweany. Let the dead horse rot. We are all here for the same reason....trading ideas, information, and learning from one another.

I get a big kick out of all you fellas.

Kohai (Student or Understudy in Japanese for those not in the know)

Gendaito (Modern Swords) here in Japan start out over $10,000. Plus, something is worth what the market will bear. So, if people are paying the asking price for these swords, then, by virtue of that, they are worth it. It seems to me that you just don't like the guy. Fair enough, but one mans meat is another mans poison. You may be surprised to find he has a lot of friends and admirers. Its poor form to bash someone online when you don't know the whole story and it may in fact just be a perception issue and not the truth.

This is not addressed to anyone directly.

Keep in mind that SFI in 1999 was five years ago. How much has your work changed in five years? I happen to have eventually been involved on almost all sides of the issue, and I remain on SFI to this day. How much first hand experience do you have, and how much are you repeating from a friend of a friend?

Oh come on Guys. This has gotten out of hand. I have opinions about their work too. I am not going to express them. I have strong opinions about Sword Forums and I am not going to express them.
The guy posted job openings.

He did not ask for a dissertation on his work.

Let the people who are interested in the jobs do their own research before they decide if they are really interested.

I get mildly called on the carpet every time I make fun of Sword Forums and IMHO there's a hell of a lot to make fun of. I generally stop, at least for a while. Let's give this one a rest...HUH.

Temper, WELL PUT. All this slaming is nothing but crap. All employers are good employers. If they don't like them they can leave. It seems there are some though that would just rather take taxpayer handouts, so they complain.

I agree! I was hoping this swordforums nonsense would go back there.

It's got no place here.:barf:

One of the big reasons I have always appreciated this forum is the mature outlook. It isn't nearly so much a thing of everyone following the trend of ideas. It isn't just a bunch of kids agreeing with what the other guy said. There are some very independant thinkers that are going to present their own opinions no matter what the group says. I like that!

I'm wishing I had never suggested moving this thread to shoptalk.

I fully expected better behaviour.

I sure wish the same thing could be said about all employees. Many just want to get paid for putting in hours but try to avoid the WORK part of the job.

I seldom expect good behavior... But I always hope for it. Thank you for the suggestion.

Back to JOBS. How many part timers have wanted to go full time but never had the financial ability or were willing to take the risk. Here's the chance!
