Job openings

Things we are currently working in include:
1) Enhanced conductivity in aluminum cable
2) Thermal polishing of aluminum (racing engines, aircraft skins)
3) Improving performance in 4140 steel
4) Technowootz industrial applications

And higher performance blades!

"You seem defensive for no reason."

Darrell, there was reason. I used to be one of those guys who slammed Angel Swords without ever having held one of their blades. :footinmou Philosophically it was not a good person to be.

Greg,
You beat me to the punch, I was just about to recommend you to Dan. Being from Canada, you may need an H1-B or something to that effect. Make sure you tell him about your Masters Thesis. :)

Tim and Dan

A Canadian citizen should be able to work in the US under NAFTA rules just like an American should be able to work in Canada. You can only really be on an H1-B for 7 years. After that you can be "stuck". There is one year time limit for the NAFTA visa. It can be renewed by mail as many times as needed. One does not have to apply in advance. If I recall, one shows up at the border or airport with a letter of offer, educational credentials that are in keeping with the job offer and $75 (several years ago). The visa is then issued, on the spot. There are other ramifications once you are settled that relate to what kind of visa you have. It was much harder for me to get a mortgage because I have an H1B. My wife cannot work either. I wish that I come to Houston on the NAFTA visa but my employer's legal department stuck their nose into it. It would be worth it to check out the current rules for working here under NAFTA.

Best of luck.

Thank You Tim

I've made similar mistakes. I suspect that we all have. When looking at photos of knives by "X" bladesmith I made some critical remarks which were repeated. Once I had handled that makers work, I saw that my previous impression had been just plain wrong. :footinmou

Simple, understated, elegant, high performance blades are hard to appreciate without holding them and looking at the precision of the workmanship.

Yes please do.

I actually met the cat that runs this show; had a good conversation with him at a hammer in some time back. In terms of self promotion, he's a P.T.Barnum if ever'twas one. I actually admire that!, a lot of knifefolk are just plain "backards" sometimes. On the subject of his work: his sh*t cuts!!!, bends!!! like (at least for sword length blades...) like nothing else I've seen. Very cool. As for price; if Ed Fowler can ask what he does for the same knife he's been making forever, then we can ALL set prices where we like and see if it sells. Where there's a following, there is a price point as we call it in retail. Simple as that. As for testing, well, how many "Japanese" style smiths test anything?? so who's gonna do a cut'n bend on a katana that they've six weeks in?? Yea right. Bob Engrath once said that after all his work, precautions, and particularness, sometimes he'd find a small crack in the edge of some of his best work, of great impressiveness in my view is his admission of such. How many other makers in this day would do the same. I've seen the "tecnowotz" (sp?) bend to the point I was looking for safty glasses... no kidding.

Mitch,

If you're only over in Montgomery, you should make it by for a HABA meeting sometime. Not too many knife makers on a regular basis, but lots of good people, and conversations. I haven't gotten to make it by very often since my daughter was born, but... Some day.....

Ah dammit.... That's right, that's the one I found out about twenty minutes after it was over. I was really looking forward to that one too. This single parent stuff can really kill the hobby, let me tell you. I've hit a total of one meeting since we had that forge building workshop way back when. My poor forge, I had to move *spiders* out of my poor forge...

Hey! I resemble that remark. But with a sense of integrity... which I also promote via my guarantees!
