As for recognizing the design, I thought all the tests here would be multiple-choice!!
Feeling a lot of pressure here, since I think your talent/creativity far outstrip my imagination/vision.
But I'm going to go with my first impression: I see it as a top view of the saucer section of a Star Fleet starship, maybe Galaxy class (although I don't spend much time studying starship specs ).

Wow John! I love the IDIC slip. That is super cool, and super nerdy as a pleasant bonus. I've always liked the idea of Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations as an organizing principle.
