JohnDF's Christmas GAW

It's the flag of the planet Vulcan.

Which is why I chose it for you.
Us Trekkies and nerds have to stick together. :)
Wow John! I love the IDIC slip. That is super cool, and super nerdy as a pleasant bonus. I've always liked the idea of Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations as an organizing principle.
Very cool bonus for me is learning some new Trek lore! :thumbsup::cool::cool::thumbsup:
Once John taught me that it's a symbol from the Vulcan flag, I did some internet research. One of the things I found was the IDIC "philosophy" that @abbydaddy mentioned. I also found out that Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry invented the symbol as a medallion for Spock to wear so that Roddenberry could sell replicas to the fans. The actors were reluctant to participate in that. All new and interesting to me! :)

Star Trek, the gift that keeps on giving. :cool::thumbsup:

Oh man!! :oops::oops:
Where does that "insignia" come from, John? I have to confess that I don't recognize it, which is pretty embarrassing for a guy who's been signing all of his correspondence for the past 48 years with the Vulcan phrase "Peace and Long Life"!

Isn't it "Live long and prosper"?

Glad it got there.
Enjoy it in good health, my friend. :cool::thumbsup:

I walked over to campus late Thursday afternoon, and found a package from John in my mailbox at work! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:
It contained the slip with the Vulcan insignia John posted earlier in this thread. Here's a couple of photos I took of the slip on Friday at a park about a mile and a half from my house:

But that's not all! :eek: Inside the slip was a classy AG Russell one-arm knife, about 3.5" closed with black synthetic handles, a bird's eye pivot, and 3 small circular pearl inlays on each side!

I've been quite mesmerized by tipping the knife in various directions and watching the changes in the appearance of the pearl. It's difficult for me to capture in a photo, but look at the differences among the 3 inlays in this closeup.

John, thanks so much for your thoughtful generosity and for your talent at working leather!! :):thumbsup::thumbsup:
