Johnson Adventure Blades

Alright I just have to ask.......

Why is there no guard to keep your index digit from sliding up and getting sliced on this blade?

I'm new here, but this knife obviously has been through iterations of design improvements over its life until this production run.

Educate me why this is acceptable for a hard use knife when 99% of all knives have some form of finger guard. The other two Johnson knives produced by Ka-Bar have guards, too.

there's no guard, because they didn't want one?

not all hard use knives have guards. most scandi type knives for instance. mora is one of the hardest use knives there is. no guard.

imho, a guard has a place, but not always, and not for everyone.

The choil area kind of acts as a guard.

indeed, handle retention is rather secure, so again a guard is not required.

some knives need'em

some people need'em

govt contract usually have them (and thumb ramps)

this one manages without

When I first saw this knife online the whole "no hand guard", thing really botherd me. The pics they originally posted of this knife didnt even have a choil! Once I found out the production model had a choil I sprung and bought it. I can assure anyone out there wondering about your hand sliping onto the blade,.....it wont. Grip is VERY positive. I stabbed really hard into a log a couple times to see how it felt and that was the end of my worries. Hope this helps. Its a sweet knife. This and my BK7 have to be my two favs,.....well those and my RC-3.....

Oh, I added some precision jimping on my potbelly with a jewlers file the other night. I will try and get some pics up again when I have time. The ol potbelly is lookin nice and seasoned since shes been workin around the property.

i forgot to add that the palm swell (swedge) is so positive, that to slip would surely be to drop ones own head due to inattention :)

check the handle angles from prior pictures. this is one well contoured and fat handle...

Did you paint the handle? Mine is much more brown. Maybe it is just the lighting.

Okay, so I have to ask: Anyone have a BACON MAKER yet???? I'm actually a bit more interested in this than the Potbelly (mainly because of the finger guard thing...I've already severed a couple of nerves in my middle finger because of this issue, and that knife DID have a finger guard, albeit a minuscule one.)

I'm ordering one next paycheck. I'm gonna take my son hog doggin' for his 15th B-Day and he's gonna use it to stick his pig. :)

I have a potbelly and wanted to add that this knife is excellent for chopping food. I find I prefer it over my chef knife while in the kitchen at home.

Interesting comments\observations. Mine should be in by this Monday. I have no worries about my fingers slipping onto the blade with those grips and a para lanyard. 99% of my use is straight slicing or batoning. A guy has to be prepared in case you have to fight two or three black bears at a time though. Ya gotta hate when that happens eh?
