You don't know the power of the dark side!

Put a patina on my brian andrews, stainless blade (M2K) next to it for comparison. Used it to munch on some fruit and was half was there, so I just finished it up.

Also snapped an unrelated pic of all the scandis I had around (forgive the low quality):

Wow spooky! That thing looks cool. Now, when you go to sharpen it, you will have a cool two tone thing going on.

That's cool.

I was just telling kgd yesterday that I don't own a scandi grind (for some reason).

I like the way your patina turned out on your knife. I think the dark side looks pretty cool on knives. Here's a picture of three I have done. The top knife is a Bark River Lil Nessy, the second one is a DP, and last but not least is my JK Kephart.

That looks badass with tha green micarta! Did you just use vinegar?
Oh yeah, that little Enzo looks so out of place there for some reason.

Spooky what's the blade to the right of the skookum?
TIA
Ted

That's Hollowdweller's Muskrat Man Puukko I think.

+1 on the vinegar question.

You guys would any other household acids that work well?

Hey buddy, that JK looks awesome, you could imagine it had been passed down to you from your grandfather and he had used it as a youngster !!!

Crazy person!! Say ten hail scandis and order an M2K from Ragnar.

Yup, it's HD's Muskrat Man custom puukko. Fantastic handle. Debating getting one but that 15 week wait is disconcerting.

Ha!

But I actually used lemon juice with a bit of water to get the patina, the best way to do in my experience. Clean the blade with acetone first, then allow to sit vertically in a glass of the mixture for around 45 minutes.

I'm not a huge fan of the mustard patterns I've done, I don't enjoy the patchiness. (Though it does give it a more 'authentic' look if not too patterned.)

Nice patinas!

I also like a nice, even patina on some knives.

Lately, I have been using a mix of mustard and vinegar to develop an even patina:

How much of each do you mix & how long do you let it sit on the blade ?

I mix vinegar and mustard at a 3:1 ratio (approximately), and apply it with a Q-tip or cotton swab. I try to apply a thin and even coat. This coat is allowed to dry (approx. 10 minutes). I then use a Q-tip soaked in the same mixture to 'clean' the residue of the first patina coat off the blade, which leaves a second coat. Repeat until satisfied.

All the best,

- Mike
