Jot Khalsa>>what gives?

The Jot was really a great looking knife and would be great to see an updated model hit the shelves.

Jot designs his liner locks in a way that much safer than most others. Previous owners should already know this, but he puts the disengagement cutout below, NOT AT, the finger notch, making it a much safer knife than most other liner locks. This way your hand don't touch the liner while using it. YMMV.

I think the "overlooked" issue is that the knife didnt sell very well. It was not a design that has a lot of appeal to a wide variety of knife buyers.
IMHO

I think the tide may have turned. RRG pointed out that one sold for over $250 on the famous auction site. It's an ingenious design and was way undervalued in my opinion. Perhaps a new Jot appreciation has started or it's just an anomoly. Who knows, but we'll see.

I wonder if it was tip-up carry, and there were finger notches on the front of the hump, if the blade would open like a Wave feature.

Did anyone here take a look at that Jot Singh that just sold on Ebay last week for like $220 +??? What's up with that?

Recently I've seen Jot Khalsa's going for $122-$128. So, if somebody paid $220 - seller jut got lucky! :) Good for him!

Next one is over $170 already.
Threads like this one can raise the price someone is willing to pay. Offering an item worldwide can raise the price as can nice pictures and being a reliable seller. Then of course for some unknown reason prices of certain models just seem to explode all of a sudden. Different model every 1 or 2 months or so.

I think prices on eBay are often inflated. Sometimes because the buyer doesn't know any better, and sometimes by an unethical seller. With eBay you only need two bidders that really want something (and may not know the real value) to get a crazy final bid. Next month somebody might sell a Spyderco JSK and get half as much. Plus, some people just don't know when to stop bidding.

OK, OK forget the aberations on eBay for now. The General ( Sal Glesser) has just more or less offered to re-introduce this great, forgotten classic. And for all of you who did not like the first one well here is your chance to tell the man what improvements would make your day and might make you want to add this newer version to your collection and/or EDC line up.

I too think that a new model with a compression lock similar to the one that the Lil Temperance had would be a great improvement. Also a space-aged blade steel would be great. Maybe even a blade steel that Spyderco has not yet used in a folder before. One guy talked like Burgundy scales would be neat>> I tend to agree with that.

But now let's put our heads together and see what kind of consensus we can come up with. If you don't like the knife>> that's cool because I don't like every model either so another thread might amuse you better than this one. But how often do we get the General offering to Re-do an older model. This is a fabulous opportunity to get a newly designed Spyder with everything we ( the devoted forumites) want to see in that particular model. Yes Sir indeed let's bring back the Jot Khalsa with a myriad of improvements and some enhancements that may not have even been available when the old one was being produced. Now's our chance>> let's don't blow it :)

Heck, compression lock, new steel, burgundy g-10 that covers it.

Whoa, I'm not even disagreeing with ya JD.

Having hung out with Jot on a few occasions I wouldn't hesitate to support bringing this design back.

I don't recall, did the original have the Sikh flag on the blade? I seem to remember that it did. Just gonna say if there is a re-issue make sure that flag is present.

So I'm all for it. Will buy one the second I get my hands on a Spyderco Pikal...;)

Also, I once heard a rumor that the Khalsa was the original inspiration for the Gunting...

I have had 4 of the Jot Khalsas all together and I have never seen one with any type of a flag on it. I have looked in a lot of my older dealer catalogs and have not seen one with a flag in any of those sources. I also looked up the September 1998 version of Tactical Knives magazine that had a great article about the Khalsa and there was no mention of any flag there either.

Brother are you sure you aren't mistaken this Spyderco model with maybe one of Jot Khalsa's custom knives? IF there was ever a Spyderco C-40 with a flag of any type on it then it must have been a limited edition of that knife  ? IF anyone knows I would like to know the straight scoop on that one.

I have one of each (plain and serrated) that are just a bit uncomfortable for my hand. I bought them when I was building my Spyderco collection, and have kept them so far because I was hoping the value would increase a bit more.

The locks are both just fine on them.
I am not a clip on guy, I carry down in my pocket most of the time, but the clips seem fine, just odd with placement. Like DaveH said, its just a bit big, wide and blocky to clip-on.

The part about it that is uncomfortable is that my finger is right on the cutting edge when its in the choil at the pivot. I absolutely love that choil on knives, and most are fine. This one makes me feel like I am going to cut myself. The opening arc is also a bit unusual.

As for blade steel, I have always liked Gin-1. Heck, I like ATS55 too, and ATS34. No, Gin-1 steel is a fine steel in my opinion. Easy to sharpen.

That Sal would get down here and discuss this with us is cool. Sal is a good friend to the knife community, in my opinion. For several reasons.

Back on point, its interesting to me to watch values of the originals when sprints or new versions come out. The R and R2 come to mind.

I was just askin about the flag. Thought considerin Jot is a Sikh that it'd be appropriate. Sounds like I was thinking about his customs. No biggie I was just dropping my two cents.

My original PE has the Sikh symbol on the Blade.

-Compression Lock
-Burgundy Micarta (maybe some fancy stone inlay)
-Sandvik19C27 Blade Steel (Seems like a nice new steel)
-Slightly increased Handle Length (Some complained the handle was too small)

Just an idea.

I have my original, and what I would change is:

- locking system, (it opens sometimes while putting in pocket) think back lock would be best due to it's closed balde holding abilities,
- Slightly enlarge whole design (about 10-15%),
- four position pocket clip or at least tip up carrying possibility (so I could open it as wave equipped blade)
- textured scales for better grip (maybe some fancy colours and mterials),
- blade steel (vg10, s30v).

All that should give a good useful knife.

It is great that You consider re-release of this design.

P.S.
Sorry for my english.
