Is there a place to find pictures of MS and JS knives that have passed the tests? I would like to print them out as inspiration when I am working in my basement as to what to look for in terms of flow, finish and design. I have found a couple here but would like to add as many as I can. If you have a pic of yours that you would like to add to this thread please do and I would love to hear WHY you picked the designs that you did.

Thanks in advance- it is hard to do a search for something with common terms like what I am looking for.

cuts I do believe the JS test is a destruction test, ie those knives are bent to 90 degrees in a vice to check the applicant's knowledge of differential heat treatment. their not judged on form fit or finish.

Correction- a smith testing for JS has to have 5 knives that are judged for fit and finish. One additional knife is used for the cutting and bending tests.
These pics are of Bruce Bumps JS and MS test knives.

Just to make a note, in the ABS folders are no longer acceptable for entry for judging for JS or MS certifications. They were up untill a few years ago however.

Actually, according to the ABS website, you can still present a maximum 2 damascus folders for the MS judging. No folders for JS permitted. Also, for your MS judging, only the dagger and any folders that you present have to be pattern welded. The other fixed blades can be any material as long as they are forged.

I submitted folders in 05 for JS and 07 for MS. They do change the rules from time to time, so best to check the ABS website.

That would be a cool idea for a book...

(As would "Knives of the AKI" btw...)

You and John Perry may be the reason that made the no folders rule for the JS test. You guys were ringers....lol;)

Bruce's dagger is one of my all time favorite MS test knives, but do you think the judges would look askance at that sawback knife today? Jim Jackson told me that someone commented on a hollow ground knife that he submitted...but it passed anyway:D

Harder to read in the bathroom unless your laptop is waterproof and has great bluetooth!

But whens the last time they even updated it? Last time I looked I didnt see you listed on the MS page so it seems they forget to update certain areas.

Don used this folder for his MS (2007)

This was one of John's MS test knives. It sits near to the second from the bottom in J's JS pieces.

Here are Adam DesRosiers' JS knives from 2006:
