This is what was waiting on me when I got home today:
First of all, the pictures just do not do this blade justice (especially mine). It is a beast in the hand. Your first instinct is to chop into whatever is nearby. I barely resisted attacking the refrigerator.
The fit & finish is impeccable. The tang is completely flush with the scales. The grind is beautiful, and this sucker is sharp! For some reason, I was not expecting this to be hair shaving sharp (I don't know what I was thinking).
Well, it is, as my forearm can attest.
The grip on this thing is very comfortable, making the 10 inches of blade feel like an extension of your arm; a sharp, substantial, imposing extension of your arm. I have very big hands, and the handle is very roomy and generous, allowing for several grip styles.
The sheath is fantastic, as all reports have already said. Good retention, but not so tight you must fight to remove it. A thumb on the corner allows it to be removed easily, but I wouldn't worry about losing it.
The cordura backing is nice as well. The belt loop fit my gun-belt just fine. I have to say thanks here to the ESEE guys for providing such a well thought out sheathing system with the knife.
The pommel cover is retained by some Velcro when not in use. A small loop of para-cord and lock is provided to cinch it down when in use.
I had been feeling somewhat silly for buying this knife. I did not think that I really needed it for anything, and I had just ordered the ESEE 6. After receiving the Junglas, I do not feel bad at all. Not one bit. I needed this knife. I've been needing this knife for a long time and just did not know it. Honestly, I am not sure how I have been getting along without it...
If you are on the fence about this one, pull the trigger. All worries fade when it is in the hand. It is a really great piece. I have no idea how Jeff and Mike put this out at the price point they did. Bang for the buck does not even begin to cover it.
It is rainy, and I am inside with the baby napping, but I hope to get out and put this sucker to some use real soon. I will update the thread with some more pics and impressions when I put it through a few paces.
My thanks to ESEE for putting this out and Rowen for doing such a bang up job building this beauty!
