Junk Yard Dog II, Get one now ;-)

I got my JYD from the man in the brown shirt today and man am I impressed. This is an excellent knife for 50 bucks. It would be an excellent knife for 150 and it will get a hell of a workout this weekend since im going on a 3-4 day canoe trip. I cant wait to see what it will handle.

...Gary,

Although it's been said many times, many ways:

Great pics, man. Thanks for sharing them!

Glad to oblige sir! I just keep turning the knife over in my hands
checking every aspect, it's truly well made, only thing that I would
change would be the back spacer, switch it out for something,
but, that is a very small thing and not one I'll probably ever do ;)

Yep, it is an amazing value at that price, I may end up getting another one...just in case!

Let us know how you made out from the weekend!

Thomas, any plans of making the handle on the Junk Yard Dog smaller one
like the JYDII ? the extra thickness seems to allow a more secure grip, for me
at least.

I used the hell out of this knife since friday night. The lack of thumbstuds is extremely handy. The knife stayed sharp it was touched up on a sharpmaker once during the trip and was used heavily around camp.

Hmm the only thing holding me back is that it's not AO, but I can usually get my thumb studded ones out pretty quickly.

JML90 - the flipper on these works great so the lack of AO really isn't much of a problem.

Thanks Thomas, maybe will pick one up to see how thin it is;

jlfletcher83, Good to hear sir!

and JML90, have NO fear on how this knife opens, lacking the AO
is almost a plus, as there may be some LEO's that would hassle someone
that had an AO feature on a knife, this works so very very very smooth
you will be more than pleasantly surprised :)

Hmm very tempting, now a need to figure out this rubix cube of sharpening.

I've not pressed this knife hard yet, some thick leather is about it, just
a lot of admiring and flipping open ;)

But, I've heard tell from others that sharpening is very easy and my knife
has an exceptional edge on it even after all the leather cutting.

I checked NGK on line store for the JunkYard Dog little one, they still have
those in stock, but not too surprising the JYDII is out of stock, maybe these
pics have done their job a bit too well :)

I got 1 from knifeworks and I love it. They still have them in stock last I checked. Am planning to get the JYD. But the II has really shined in value for money.

Knifeworks had JYD2's in stock as of Monday. I ordered one Monday night and I have it in hand as I type.:D

Super fast shipping and it came by postal mail. I guess it helps that I live in the same state as Knifeworks.

The JYD2 is great as have been every Kershaw I've bought in the last three weeks.

I now have the following Kershaws:

1.JYD1 (2 Each)
2.JYD2
3.Leek BW (2 Each)
4.Leek TIZDP
5.Scallion (Green) (2 Each)
6.Kershaw Camp Kit
7.Kershaw Minted Honker given to me by kershawguy for winning the trivia question.
8.Vapor aquired today from a friend at work for $10.00 (Couldn't pass it up for that price)

Hopefully my next purchase will be a Groove, that is if I can somehow get it past my wife.

Nice eh CARman?

I have the JYD heading my way soon, I am very please at how sharp an
edge this knife will take, very very sharp!

The JYD2 is the sharpest knife I have received out of the box Gary W. Graley. I will start carrying it tomorrow at work to see how it will work out as an EDC. I guess the JYD1 would be more work friendly just by virtue of it being smaller, but I'm interested to see the reaction of my coworkers.

Since I work on an Army base you'd think eveyone would be use to seeing larger knives, but who knows.

I do see larger "tactical" knives being carried by troops everyday and I work in a hospital environment. Of course I'm an EMT/Paramedic type so I can justify carrying a large knife anyway.:D

So far carrying it around the house today I can't even tell it's there. Real nice for such a big knife and it has is real smooth opening action.:)

It's a real winner of a knife, I love the angle of the handle, fits in the hand
very neatly, and the G10 while it has traction, doesn't eat the pocket edges
up as other G10 knives tend to do, and the clip, retains pretty well, I know
folks think it's a bit overboard on the size/shape, but it all works nice, if it
were black, probably be a bit more hidden.

I carried my JYD2 at work today and of course I had to show it off. I got a few looks and comments about it being quite large, but overall eveyone really liked it.:)

It is just as comfortable as my JYD1 and I can't even tell it's there and it's really nice to know I have a knife that will accomplish any job I ask it to do.:D

The JYD2 will be my EDC now. At least until Kershaw comes out with another one I really like.;)

I got mine yesterday and am liking it a lot so far. Most of my fixed blades end up being INFI but I'm not so singular with the folders. I've had (have) several BM and Spydies but my first Kershaw was the Cyclone. It is a perfect size slicer, for my purposes, and has replaced most of the other folders as my EDC. (S30V Leek for the discrete carry.)

The JYDII is a great size too. Not too big - not too heavy. It isn't a folder trying to masquerade as a fixed blade in folding form. In fact, it feels noticeably lighter than my Cyclone.

The feel in hand reminds me of the MT Amphibian - one I've always been fond of using. While I *do* think the pocket clip looks kinda cool and isn't obtrusive during use, it does call a little more attention to itself than I would like when in my pocket.

I'm not feeling the loading you guys described on the detente when index opening. Maybe I am too used to the AO open of the Leek and Cyclone... With just a bit of wrist flick, along with the index open, it does swing open like the axis is built on bearings though, so no complaints.

Overall, I like it. The blade shape is great. I'm already familiar with the steel from the Cyclone and think it is a bargain. The grip is good. I could take or leave the patterning on the G10. The overall g10 finish is good - sticky but not too abrasive.

Thanks Thomas and crew!

Wow, over a year since the last entry on this thread,
I had reluctantly gave my JYDII to my brother in law,
but he certainly deserved it, he really helps a lot around
our house construction wise and a great friend too.
He's used her since getting her and really enjoys the knife.

SO, the reason I'm bringing this up from the depths, just ordered
one of the NEW Junkyard Dogs, with the G10 scales and CPM-D2
laminated blade, should arrive probably tomorrow, only problem is
I'm out in Kelso WA until late Saturday night, but she sure looks
promising!! :)

ps, thanks New Graham Knives, they do such great service for us guys and gals :)

Gary, I think you'll find the CB JYD II to be a great piece. The CB technology is incredible!

Glad to have you stop by again!
