Just a bit different

Don,

This is an outstanding folder. The blade design and scales of course are really cool. As a matter of fact I think it is so unique it would be enough to get me started collecting folder's again. I obviously along with everyone on this thread would be pleased to find a home for such a great knife.

Good going as usual.

Tight lines, Jon

Don, It's Beautiful, I'm more into the guard an that fantastic warm glow the handle projects, Overall it's a winner!

That is really nice. Sometimes different works, in this case it really works.

I really like how you shaped the handle butt to accept the clip.

With this and the BIG folder you made for Coop recently you are really showing the extreme depth of your creative pool.

Sometimes I make something different, I'm the only one who likes it. :o

This folder was designed around the ivory. I bought this piece of walrus from a photo, when I got it I decided it was too small for a fixed blade, so I split it into scales and needed to shape a handle to fit. I traced one scale on paper and sketched out the rest. I couldn't get a regular blade shape to work, looked bad when closed. The pirate blade was what it needed.

Really good to see all the love for this one :)

Cool how a small spark can start a fire. :D

Don, As Buddy mentioned about curves and ALL of us agree, this one just exudes the Hanson styling curves. I am glad to see Bailey applauding you. That dropped edge was reminiscent of some of his better pieces and I thought of that quickly, but with no slight to either maker.

I would submit this is a standard that you may make in a refined versioin (as you just did) and a version that might have potential with lesser materials, too. The shape is it's BIGGEST styling cue, and it's unmistakeable.

I'm dead serious to suggest this with synthetic or even wood scales and no damascus as a trial. This one could keep you VERY busy.

Coop

Coop, I will take that into consideration but you know I can't make it to plain ;)
Thanks man!

To add to my last post, the handle of this folder is the exact shape of the ivory as I received it. Designed by nature :)

Just beautiful, Don. And, yes, this is one of the few folders that looks like a complete package even when it's closed.

FANTASTIC....sublime ivory as IS expected considering all the previous examples, sweet damascus, nice filework and bolster treatment. There is a LOT to like about it.:D

I happened to notice the semblance to the Moran lockback blade shape also.

I was messin with some ivory and made this little "scimitar" a while ago:

Maybe that's why we all like it so much. It's embedded in our pleasant memory.

Hey have you seen that new 'Pirate' actress? She looks kinda like Sophia Loren...

Hubba hubba!!!  ;)
