Just a couple of shooting pics from Canada!

I just thought I would post these pics for you guys...medium cold day, about -10c and howling wind where these were shot. I just took a friend out shooting for the first time and had my rig on for the sole purpose of keeping mags handy and having somewhere to drop empty mags and brass - I started out with a different gun and was throwing the brass in my open pocket but then realized I could put it in the dump pouch on the front of my rig, which is set up entirely for use with this gun otherwise.

So I threw it on and after a while switched to this gun anyway.

Actually if the other guy hadn't been freezing to death (I was toasty in my fleece/hardshell and could have stayed out there all day) there would have been a lot more pics. We also did some shotgunning, some iron sight M14 work at about 100m, and some slightly longer range stuff with my heavy barrel Savage (also in .308) from the prone position, which was too much for my friend! Although he is a very experienced camper, hiker, and climber he just wasn't prepared for the cold that day.

Anyway here's a couple of pics of unshaven me in my tacticlol assault setup! Although the pants I am wearing are actually my ski pants - they are way too loose at the ankles to be using for zombie fighting...I would get tripped up on the piles of corpses I would leave, I think.

Note that although I had the stock folded in the first pic I don't actually shoot it like that!

Most of what's on the rig is Tactical Tailor, although the pistol mag pouches are the magnetic ones from Tadgear, and the dump pouch is maxpedition rolypoly, of course. Rig is TT Mav 2-piece with harness. It's surprising just how comfortable this setup is, although obviously I look completely out of my mind to most people!

Large pouch on my right side is always full of eat-more bars, fluids and other stay-alive gear. So you see there is definite wilderness survival content here!

Nice setup, and dig the chops.

Who did the folding stock on your 14? How's that working out from the folded position?

Sorry, just noticed you said you don't fire from folded. Takes some cajones I am sure.

The guy who did my folder was this incredibly sexy, smart guy with killer sideburns and a cowboy hat called misanthropist!

You can shoot it that way without any real problems - it's just that it's not nearly as easy to put accurate fire down from the folded position.

But you sure could do it if you had to - it's not that hard on the wrist on a heavy gun like that.

That's one of the current crop of Norincos. I have a few of these as they are dirt cheap up here and perform well out of the box and can be cheaply made to perform VERY well.

I have been slowly cutting down my collection though and I think I currently only have 4.

1 standard
2 scouts
1 scout with the folder, pictured.

Receiver is forged...believe it to be 8620 steel. This rifle is currently good for about 2.5 moa with chinese surplus ammo, which is why it got the folder.

My others range down to about 1.25 moa rifles, although in some cases I think I could improve on this with more careful load selection.

Still that's pretty decent for a $400 gun with $200 in tweaks!

The folder started life as a gi fiberglass stock (which all my norks get.)

The optic is an n-cell eotech, compatible with nvgs, not that I ever expect to use this feature!

SUPER fast to get on target though. The folder weighs down the back end, this rifle is pretty quick. And with the eotech...lookout!

400 dollar M-14s make me want to move to the other side of the Detroit River. I would love to pick up an SVT-40 for the prices they go for in Canada as well.

Wow thats cool...where are you shooting? Apparently we bother too many neighbors up at my buddies cottage...I need a new spot.

It's a bit of a drive from your place...head down to the Trans-Canada, drive west for about three thousand miles, then go right on sylvester.

Nobody to bother though! Everyone out here is either up there to shoot or up there to 4x4 and won't flinch at shooting!

Yeah, accuracy would be the big issue for me. I suck bad enough with a full stock with the iron sights. Don't shoot mine as much anymore, with ammo going for something like 65 cents a pop. Maybe with the weak Canadian dollar you could pick me up some?? :D Of course I have a tiny, tiny bit ;) saved up from when it was cheap, but I'll be needing that for the zombies and all.

I've got the stuff to reload for 7.62 Nato, just haven't had the courage yet.

I hear you there...I haven't bought pistol ammo in ages - I bought a dillon 650xl with all the bells and whistles and that really changed my life - but I have just never gotten around to doing rifle ammo.

I will finally have the time this winter though, I think, so I better get going on that!

It's funny, too, because I have a precision Savage in the same caliber but I've just been too busy with other things. But loading .308 should be a priority for me!

Jwilliams, I am right there with you on the M14...just an awesome platform, particularly for the "1-gun survivalist."

Makes a good hunting rifle, makes a good fighting rifle, puts things down with authority, plenty accurate, punches through cover, great stock iron sights...tough gun not to love!

LOL!!! I can't believe that thread is still around! I guess they don't just magically disappear though...

No, I didn't bring her on that outing...actually somewhere I have a pic of her posing topless with an M14 but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Have to shoot some more I guess!

You nailed it, paired up with a 1911, your golden. Now I wish I could get one for under 1500 bucks here.:grumpy:

Oh well.
