It really is a perfect little knife. A forum knife perhaps...one day

This one has lots of blade too and a nail file

Beautiful. Maybe we should start a Mother's Day thread for all the MOP we have. White, gold, silver, MoTS, etc.

Thanks, the best part was the time spent researching the history in order to date the knife. I felt like a cutlery detective.

It wasn’t till the internet that I was able to research all the clues only to find out the company Good Roads Machinary company had only been in business under that name for 15 years. Somewhere between 1892 and 1907. If you’d like an interesting read on how I determined the age click this link to the original thread. I assure you it’ll be an interesting read. 100+ year old Bastian Brothers Die Stamped advertising pen knife.

For you folks just gettin' started collectin', research the history of the American Knife Dynasty. Learn the history of all the old Cutlery family names, Case, Champlain, Schrade, Kinfolks to name a few. The history is fascinating and how the dynasties grew through marriage between the families tells a lot about the early years. Advertising knives in particular are always interesting and often can help narrow down the age of a knife by perhaps the phone number or the name of a company with a known history and timeline.. Just the fact of a new logo for a known company can date a knife if it's on it. Don't try this worth the Purina knives, there are just so darn many of them :)

I know it's pictures only and I do apologize for the long post but I ran across a few knives for this thread and my power's been down for a few days from the storm so I'm a little chatty. :p

Here's one that the advertising rubbed off but originally was from a car dealership. The key was used between the late 50s- the late 60s. This helped narrow it down to about 15 years between those two based on the style of ignition key was used. I was lucky with this one as it has an uncut GM ignition key. I'm plannin' on givin' this to my buddy for his '68 Camaro .

I absolutely love advertising knives, especially all metal ones and that is an exceptional example. The level of detail in many of the older ones is amazing along with the three dimensional aspect. Always on the lookout for them. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful piece! Gonna read the link you provided shortly.
