Just bought a Gen 3 Glock 19

Hey All,

I finally pulled the trigger on the Gen 3 Glock 19 --- does anyone have any tips/suggestions for ammo, night sights, and other things that a novice to the 9 mm cartridge should know?! Thanks Gents!

 
Buy g2 RIP AMMO. Practice practice practice. It won't ever fail you and you can clean it in the dishwasher
 
Did you get lucky and get an Austrian stamped one? Perfect pistol by the way congrats! I would have traded you my Austrian g19 for the NMFBM you have listed and a knife or two! Lol. I'd suggest the new Federal ammo, it's what we just switched to at work, same expansion as a .40 cal. If it's for around the house get a good light and night sights and your gtg.

Federal HST 147grn standard pressure for defensive load if you can find it.

Sights are up to you. Every company makes some for Glock. I. have a gen 2 19 with standard sights, a gen 3 with OEM night sights, a 27 with big dot night sights and a 22 with Trijicon night sights. They are all great.
 
Shoot the crap out of it and most any of the night sights are well made anymore, I've got meprolights on one and xs big dots on another. If you want to smooth up the trigger thats pretty easy to do search 25cent trigger job on youtube. Or put in a ghost trigger connector and spring kit. They work fine stock though so just depends on what you like in a trigger.
 
Glock 19 is great! Please do not buy RIP ammo.
Federal HST is the way to go for defensive ammo. I have Glock factory night sights and a ghost evo elite trigger on mine and it's the best striker fired trigger I've ever felt. I also polished up the internals as well. You can do as little or as much as you like! Just shoot it a lot if your new to the platform. The trigger can take some getting used to.
 
I did upgrades on my glock 17 cost was about $140 all together. I was shooting it today at the range, it's my best shooting pistol.

Ammo, I use for self defense federal hst 115 gr,

Target practice I order off (bulk ammo). Just read the reviews I usually order by the 1,000 it's cheaper.
 
I'm not much of a Glock guy but I do own a couple. My 17 (RTF) sits in the safe and collects dust to be honest.

They do make awesome shovels though!

Yes the 19/23 is my favourite Glock size. These days I have neither as my personal is a 17 due to the quirks of the laws here.

The Govt owned version have Glock tritium front sights and standard (non tritium) steel rear sights.

Shoot it often, that is more important than any other upgrade you may make.
 
You picked a good one! My Gen 3 G19 is one of my favorite pistols.

I think the sights and defensive loads are personal choices, you'll have plenty of options for both.

Congratulations on the G19, it has been my choice for about 4 years now, I also bought one for Mrs. Brown also.

I have used Federal hydroshocks, or Speer Gold dot for years also.

love my 19.

Carry IWB in a holster I make that you can tuck your shirt over the top.
E-mail me if you need a holster or if you want to trade out of the 19 I could use another one ;)
 
before you buy a crapton of ammo, see what defense ammo it groups well with. good advise above.
 
For target ammo- bulkammo.com had a sale on blazer brass 124gr 9mm. I think for $209 for 1,000. Used 1,500 so far without any problems
 
I got my 1st Glock 19 when I turned 21 , .. I'm 42 now and its still one of my favorite pistols.
As for ammo,, I believe Federal HST is the way to go.
 
Lots of good options for sights out there.

I'm currently a fan of the Trijicon HD.

I've got a 30S at the moment but will be adding a 19 or 26 soon as well.
