Just bought a Gen 3 Glock 19

:thumbup:Congrats! Great pistol Rob. I love my gen 2 G19. I keep it loaded with Gold Dot 124 gr +p, and I got some Meprolight green dot night sites. The Trijicon combat sights with orange front sight are really good too. I got those on my G32.

Very nice. I love my Glocks. Shoot long, and shoot often.

For carry ammo, I like Hornady Critical Defense/Duty. The Critical Duty is a tad bit hotter than Critical Defense, but both are great shooting. I find that round to cycle through all of my carry guns from Glocks, S&W M&P's and Sheild (most 9mm's), and my 1911 45's, (and a dozen or two others). For bulk practice, I use my own reloads so I can afford quantity bangs. Then always finish any practice session with the ammo brand/model I plan to carry.

I don't have night sights on any of my Glocks just yet, but do on my 1911's that are my preferred EDC. When I do get then, will be the kind with dual illumination (I forget the brand names) with tritium vials behind fiber optic rods. Best of both worlds, illuminated day and night. My bedside gun is a G22 (.40 cal) with light/laser combo. Works great around the house, but a little too bulky for my preferred carry.

For holsters, I make my own OWB's, so obviously they are my favorite. ;). [hobby, not for sale]. But for IWB, I really like Cross Breed. For me, the key to comfort in ANY holster, is to have the gun completely moulded on the outside of the back/body shield. No matter if it's inside or outside of waistband. It's the best way to remove pressure points from the body and increase the level and longevity of comfort. That is how I make my own all-leather holsters, and that is how the cross breeds are done also. Only they use kydex for the gun mould, then attach to leather or horsehide body shield. I like the the CB's with horsehide because it's a little thinner for the same level of strength, with better moisture properties.

I carry 7 days a week, the entire time I'm both breathing and wearing pants. The two holster styles mentioned above fit probably 98% of my carry needs. The other 2% I'm either being creative with pocket holsters, which may also require grabbing a smaller gun. Micro .380's, .38 Snubs, or super micro "Derringer" style like NAA Mini's.

This is my favorite carry rig.

Yes a few 33rders are a must have IMO.

Love my Gen 3 G19.
Shoot shoot shoot, reload and shoot some more.
XS sights are good, I like them at least.

Enjoy your new gun!

Hey man! Welcome to the GLOCK club. I believe that you will find yourself in good company!

Get your slide milled and toss a Burris fastfire 2 or better red dot on that effer.

Buy 33 round mags, and FACTORY GLOCK +2 extensions for your factory mags if they don't already have em. The two extras may come in handy.

As far as ammo goes, buy as much as you can whenever you can, and practice! My g26 eats anything and everything I've fed it.

Get yourself a new trigger. It won't feel like theres sand in your gun when you shoot it. :)

Make sure you get that red dot.

Glocks are awesome. Congrats and welcome. I am a Glock only guy. Only have one now but have owned a few. I carried Cor-Bon 90grn HPs when I carried a 9mm. Now I stick with fmj 45acp. Does what I want without over penetration. The 19 is the most popular Glock as well. As Jerry said....Glocks Rock!

A good holster, I like bravo concealment
A weapon light.. Check out the new surefire xc1, designed around the 19
Glock night sights have not let me down and they are a fair price
Stock up on mags (magpul will have g19 mags out soon and they are half the price of glocks) get some 33rders just to piss off liberals, also 17 mags work in it, my spare Mag is always a 17
I switch the trigger bars out to OEM - bars in all my glocks
For ammo I suggest Winchester ranger 127 +p+ followed by +p Remington gold sabers or +p Corbons.... Carry the Winchester Rangers personally.

Glock 19 is great! Please do not buy RIP ammo.
Federal HST is the way to go for defensive ammo. I have Glock factory night sights and a ghost evo elite trigger on mine and it's the best striker fired trigger I've ever felt. I also polished up the internals as well. You can do as little or as much as you like! Just shoot it a lot if your new to the platform. The trigger can take some getting used to.

+1 Hst is literally one of if not the best defense ammo, they're basically the newer version of the hydrashok
Now all you need is a bunch of extra mags, holster, trigger upgrade, and some adjustable night sights and you're good to go.

Glock is about as customizable as an ar-15, anything you want or need there's someplace out there makin it.

If you do decide to change your sights there are passarounds over at thehighroad where you borrow a tool as long as you promise to mail it to the next guy in line. Think i borrowed a few of the sig sight pushers like 5 times now over the years

I will save you a ton of time. After trying many types of holsters, including $100 + fancy leather models - I have settled on Glock's own Sport/Combat Holster. Light; rugged; ambidextrous; and around $15 on the Bay or Amazon. Some do not care for this holster, but I have been carrying my six Glocks in nothing but these holsters - everyday - since our current president was elected. I have my G36 in one as I type this at the library. Give it a shot. Pun intended...;-)

Ah! The Ratmandu of pistols.

Great way to put it! I have both a RMD and G19 and can confirm, they're fantastic all-arounders that can tackle just about anything.

OP, I don't mind the stock sights as much as others do, but I would definitely recommend Talon grips, they really do make a difference. Also, I know people have had good experiences with Hornady Critical Defense, but I did not. IIRC, the polymer tip created a little extra drag at times which caused feeding issues. Granted, it was with an old Ruger P95 rather than my G19, but it still goes to show that you should always try out a carry ammo before relying on it.

Shot placement is key. Practice as often as possible. The 19 is a great weapon and always have fun with mine. More of a HK guy these days but will always have room for a glock or two. Congrats.

Garth

Thank you All ---- I feel like I've been put through a crash course in all things 9 mm and Glock 19 ---- now I do already own a Glock 20 --- that I LOVE ---- so now I've had a ton of fun with the 10 mm -- it's time to enjoy the 9

No really this thread is freaking awesome --- this may have saved me months of research. Thanks Jerry, Garth, and everyone else for bestowing your wisdom on this humble 9 mm neophyte

Next get a glock 34! That's what I carry at work every day, with night sights and a tlr2... love it.

And if you have kids around, there are a bunch of options for a night drop box. I use multiples, but I have this GunVault mounted next to the bed. Fits my full size Glock with mounted light/laser, and still has room for a second mag and large knife. Just swipe any of my fingers, and the lower shelf drops open.
