Just bought a Gen 3 Glock 19

I've been shooting Gold Dots out of my 17 for years. Never a failure, nice and accurate.

I don't know what gen mine is, but I've had it for a long time. It's Austrian-made... I *think* it's Gen 3?

If its got a textured grip with the front finger grooves its a gen 3. If its got texturing and no front strap finger grooves its a gen 2.:D The gen 2's and 3's are the best glocks ever.

You can always buy Talon Grips on Amazon for a fairly cheap price. I don't have them but I'd like to try it out sometime.

I put some on my XD9. Love them. Very grippy. I think there are 2 types I remember right. I got the "non-sandpaper" version and it's perfect for me.

Yes, the other version can be too abrasive against your skin if you're looking to upgrade a carry gun.

Congrats!
The G23/19 is my favorite size Glock, they're excellent Jack of all trades guns.

Most night sights these days are of great quality. My favorites are Meprolite, Trijicon HD, and XS Big Dot. Some of my friends prefer the tritium/fiber optic combos but I just don't like the length of the sights, small gripe but I'm picky.

25 cent trigger job is a good start if you want a smoother trigger, although I find the stock triggers just fine.
I've installed Ghost Connectors in a couple just to see the difference and I do like them a lot.
The best Glock trigger I ever pulled was a ZEV, it was a thing of beauty!

Ammo
It's personal preference of course but I like
Speer Gold Dot
Hornady Critical Defense/Duty

I bought a box of RIP ammo just to see how it shoots. It shoots really well in my HK VP9 ( didn't try it in the G19 ), the recoil is lighter than my Ruger 22lr (22/45) and there was no noticeable flash from the shot. It cycled the gun just fine.

Although I have some loaded every other round with some Critical Duty ( just because I had some left ) I wouldn't recommend it for carry-it's that personal preference thing. People are as divided on that ammo as a 9mm vs 45acp debate.

For practice I like Winchester White Box (WWB) since it has always been very accurate.
Fiocchi is good, PMC has given me lots of trouble so I avoid it but my Glocks have fired every ammo I've ever loaded into them including stuff that had Sanskrit or Arabic on the headstamp-which I recommend you avoid as it blew up my G17 twice ( I know, should've learned the first time- but it was free ), it locked the slide back and blew the mag out of the gun both times.
A testament to Glock is that I just bent the feed lips on the mag back both times and the gun just kept running without any problems from the EXPLOSIVE ammo.

Enjoy it, and have fun 😃

I don't have night sights on any of my Glocks just yet, but do on my 1911's that are my preferred EDC. When I do get then, will be the kind with dual illumination (I forget the brand names) with tritium vials behind fiber optic rods. Best of both worlds, illuminated day and night. My bedside gun is a G22 (.40 cal) with light/laser combo. Works great around the house, but a little too bulky for my preferred carry.

This is my favorite carry rig.

Sounds like you're talking about the Truglo TFO (Tritium/Fiber Optics). I have a set of the Green / Yellows on my G30S now, but would like to swap them out for the Trijicon HD, or maybe try out some XS Big Dots. I'd cut someone a good deal on these, just haven't gotten around to pulling them off and listing them. On paper, the TFOs are probably the perfect sights. Tritium and fiber optic which reminds me of ACOG. In practice, I would say the sight picture can be dim in lower light (not dark) situations such as indoors or shooting outdoors from a covered area into an uncovered area.

To each their own, I just want to try some others out.

Those grips are sweet. Would match so good with some of my Busses. Where did you pick them up from if you don't mind?

Get the extended slide release. Should only cost about 12 bucks or so and is an easy install. I got one for my G26, and it was the best 12 bucks I ever spent on it. You won't regret it.

..... that depends on how you have been trained to manipulate the Glock. All mine does not see me using the slide release (in the traditional sense) at all. All big manipulations of the slide with either a overhand or slingshot grip (depending on is I am shooting strong or weak hand). The only time I use the slide stop at all is is to lock the slide back when no magazine is inserted. As i said, just depends on the training one has received.

I've been shooting pistols for over 30 years, and I have trained in a myriad of techniques as well. Using the lever and of course over the top. Blah blah. Whatever gets you into battery I say.

I just mentioned the extended release because it's an improvement. But by all means go for what you know. You asked for tips. I gave you one. I certainly didn't suggest you should change your particular shooting style.

So, for those times you need to operate the lever the extended one is, of course, handier/ easier than factory and you'd be glad you have it. That's all I was saying.

As far as ammo; You can go all day discussing design, ballistics, penetration levels, etc etc, and someone will always disagree. It's a quagmire of crap.
The best ammo will be whatever you got in your pistol when you need to use it.

Sights are the same. Train to shoot in the dark and you'll figure out that night sights are unnecessary. And if you need night sights to tell you where your pistol is pointing when you aren't shooting, then you didn't train enough at night.
I have pistols with night sights and without. I'm comfortable with both and really have no preference. You'd be better served using a flashlight because that at least will illuminate the target.

These grips are just stock on the Smith Performance Cener 1911 models. The 5" is set up in target config, adj sights, steel frame, and blue g10 grips. The carry version is 4.25", alloy frame, round butt, carry (ramp) sights, and the orange/black g10 grips. The grips are very similar to some of VZ's, but not sure who actually does the OEM for these. But gotta say that I absolutely love everything about this gun except the fact that night sights are not standard. The gun looks like a dream and shoots just as well. Oh, and the trigger from factory reads in right around 3.5 lbs. hands down the best trigger I own. Consistently breaks like a glass rod.

But, that being said, still love my Glocks too. Usually end up grabbing at least one for each range session. Some trash on their triggers, but mine have all been smooth, crisp, and consistent.

Now my full size M&P Vtac, wow! That trigger has got some serious..........issues. [emoji16]. I really need to change that sad thing out. It's a little like squeezing a wet sponge covered in sand.

Yup..... Same here. Quick pull back on that slide with the weak hand..... Run it fast, run it hard...... Glock 17 here, love it.

Thanks. So the holster with your 1911 in the pic was made by you? Have a website? Looks sweet.

Training gross motor skills is definitely the way to go if you're expecting to defend yourself with your pistols.

That being said, I have the extended slide release on my 30s as well...

I also have the extended metal which is depressed for taking the slide off (forget the name) which is AWESOME.

Also have the springs and Ghost Evo Elite (I think it's this one) connector which required a little modification to fit properly but has completely changed the trigger. The weight, the travel, the reset, the feel, everything! I like it very much.

Next, I think I'll be having Robar make some modifications to the frame for me, possibly cost the slide (undecided), and I'd like to get a 460 Rowland conversion and a threaded barrel for when I need to be quiet... Might need to get a 21 to put the 460 Rowland conversion onto later.

Glocks are fun!

Don't limp wrist shoot it. Other than that have fun one if not the best glock I've owned! Don't worry about changing anything on it just shoot it get comfortable with it and see if you really need to change anything and once that trigger is broken in and you can catch the link right before the trigger is pulled slowly release it and you will feel it catch before the trigger is all the way out when you feel this catch you can fire again keeping your accuracy and quick follow ups. Practice with the gun unloaded please. Also the more you shoot it the better that trigger will get.

Yes, I made the holster. I have sold a few in the past, but no longer have the time. Plus the fact that they take me much more time to do than someone pounding out volume. I don't really like working for $2/hr. :). So I just make them for myself (and occasionally a gift for a friend).

I put an extended slide lock on my G21 and every 2-3 shots my slide would lock open. Took me a while to figure out that my thumb would ride up and push up on the lock, locking the slide open. Took it off and never another issue.

Don't fix what isn't broke!!
