Tried some compressed air then WD40, didnt work. It seems like there's a lip that it can't get over. Can you explain your drilling idea a bit more?

Wish it was just bolted on lol.

lay the sander on its side and have someone lift up on the wheel, steady pressure, then with a brass rod and a hammer gently tap on the the rod that is going through the wheel, you should be able to drive it out the other side

oh i get it, wish the hole on the other side wasn't so small. worst comes to worst maybe i can knock off the lip with sandpaper, since long term i don't really need a wheel there.

another thing i was thinking about was a 4th wheel out of a skateboard wheel or caster wheel, but it would be nice to keep all legit wheels.

its a 2x42 belt, 9" disc, 3/4 HP

Paid $60, think I did ok?
I know this is a 15 year old thread. did you ever get your belt sander running. I bought the same one at an estate auction and my tension level/wheel does not stay in position.
