Long time lurker, first time poster. I live roughly 20 minutes away from benchmade. I have spent quite a bit of money with them over the years, within the last month I have bought a 756, a 940-1, an anthem and last Saturday a 765 mini ti monolock. I also had on order from blade hq a crkt pilar and a southern grind quill, which both arrived this afternoon.
The 756 was bought just to have something weird in my collection, with no real thoughts of its usefulness. The 940-1 was purchased because almost every single best EDC knife article has at least one variant of the 940 family listed. When purchased blade was centered, but had to do the usual pivot loosening to achieve the balance between action and blade play. The anthem had a slightly off center blade, but is smooth as silk otherwise.
The mini monolock is another story. Opens like a dream, gritty as shit when closing. Did all the research on what can make it better, graphite, sharpie.... nothing changes that it actually hurts to close this knife. The 30 dollar pilar arrives and it opens just as fast as the ti....and actually has a smooth liner lock operation. How can it be that a 30 dollar knife feels better than a 300 dollar knife? And that southern gring quill? Un freaking believable. So smooth, so nice. Benchmade is making it easy to look elsewhere.

Of course I can.... but why should I have to? A 30 dollar knife that most would consider garbage, has a better action than a knife 10 times its cost.

Yes. Go into the shop and show them the issue. Then report back (rather than not giving the company an opportunity to make it right). Every company sends out a lemon. All my benchmades have been more than adequate.

Comparing crkt to benchmade issues is ridiculous.

Why should you have to? Because shit happens. In the amount of time you've spent searching the net and then complaining about it, Benchmade's great warranty would have taken care of it already. Get it fixed and move on.

I have sent many a blade back to benchmade for tweaks. Living so close to them, I felt it was worth it to hand deliver a product to have it repaired, didn't have to worry about shipping it, etc. Then I realized almost every knife I have purchased from them has had some issue of some sort, other than the mini infidel or the emissary. When you buy a 300 dollar ti monolock and a 30 dollar pilar within the same week and the cheaper of the knives feels better, weight not counting....it really opens your eyes.

Wait, so you're lucky enough to live close enough and be able to go into a shop and try out the knife before you lay down your $$, and you didn't check the action before purchase? Where some people like me living in Australia have to rely on blind luck and the hope that a seller overseas is decent enough to agree to my request to please check out the knife before they post it. Plus, if I get it and it's a lemon i have to pay heaps for shipping, wait weeks on end and deal with postage/customs issues. Sorry mate, i have zero sympathy for you :)

Tough crowd I see... that's ok. I am not 100 percent knocking benchmade.... in fact since I have moved to Oregon I cant tell you how much I have spent at the factory store. ... it's a kick in the balls when a knife goes out the door feeling like shit, knowing full well it's not right. Wasnt there an article written not to long ago by someone well respected in the knife community that felt that benchmade relies on their warranty just a little too much?Again there's the southern grind quill that had the name of the builder, and then the name of the inspector written on the card that came with the knife. And it's perfect.

Sympathy? Lol. Not looking for your sympathy. Just like your shipping woes.

Tough crowd? You joined yesterday. We don't know your deal. This is a community and most of us know each other's posting tendencies.

Talk to benchmade. You live 20 mins away. See what they say before coming here to complain.

I have been lurking for a long time. I have no tendencies to troll any forum that I post in. I am simply saying that after spending as much money as I have with benchmade, it would be nice to not rely on their warranty 30 days within ownership.

Ton of material on the Benchmade forum page to go through that would be helpful on here. I’m typically one of the critics of Benchmade, it’s a love hate relationship. I can’t resist the new M4 red/black g10 Freek that’s coming out. It’s a gamble to an extent. I know, more than likely, it’ll be sharpened too obtuse and uneven. There’s a chance it’ll not be centered.

However, to think that a $30 knife in 8cr13mov will cut like Benchmades 154cm, S30v, D2, M4, S90v, etc. is a joke.

The CRKs Pilar is a cool design though.

Depends on what interests you in a knife. If the crkt is solid, and you don’t mind sharpening it after little use comparatively. Than perhaps your golden with that, and Benchmade isn’t for you.

And I am not trying to step on any of the toes of senior members of this site by any means. But also not posting on a forum shouldn't immediately discredit someone's experience with a knife maker. Especially when someone has an extensive lineup of that makers product.

Never made a comment about its cutting ability, just the lock operation.
