"very large" is a relative term and a matter of opinion. Both of my daily carry knives are larger than your 3" thread title reference. My daily carry knives are a Bradley Alias 1 and a Wilson model 25 (fixed-blade).You guys are reading too quick. I'm not asking why you carry multiple knives....im asking why you carry several very large knives...so the question doesn't apply to everyone.

The Bradley has a 3.5" blade, but I certainly wouldn't describe it as large. I would be more inclined to call it small.
The Wilson is 10" overall (5" blade) and I wouldn't call that large for a fixed-blade. I'd call it medium in size (although I tend to think it looks rather smallish).
I imagine that people carry what they carry for a variety of reasons- Because they need it, because they think they might need it, because they like it, or maybe because that's all they have. I figure if all a person has is a folder with a 4" blade, then that is what they will carry, even if they never need all 4 inches.

I don't know if most people base the knives they carry on their jobs. Many people might, but I think most of us carry 1-3 knives just based on our personal preferences instead of professions.
