Just curious...who edc's more than one 3" plus bladed knife...

Not me. I usually have one knife on me; if you don't count my backpack. In that case I have my primary knife in my pocket, a Leatherman Wave, Benchmade 551, Leatherman StyleCS, and a Victorinox Alox Farmer.

You guys are reading too quick. I'm not asking why you carry multiple knives....im asking why you carry several very large knives...so the question doesn't apply to everyone.

I carry a Strider SnG or SMF for personal protection in a belt sheath, a Three Sisters Forge Beast for a work knife and a Sebenza for incidental use i.e. food, mail, loose thread. Being in the construction field, there is a use for a knife every day. Grew up with knives and can't imagine life without one.

"very large" is a relative term and a matter of opinion. Both of my daily carry knives are larger than your 3" thread title reference. My daily carry knives are a Bradley Alias 1 and a Wilson model 25 (fixed-blade).

The Bradley has a 3.5" blade, but I certainly wouldn't describe it as large. I would be more inclined to call it small.

The Wilson is 10" overall (5" blade) and I wouldn't call that large for a fixed-blade. I'd call it medium in size (although I tend to think it looks rather smallish).

I imagine that people carry what they carry for a variety of reasons- Because they need it, because they think they might need it, because they like it, or maybe because that's all they have. I figure if all a person has is a folder with a 4" blade, then that is what they will carry, even if they never need all 4 inches.

Is TWSS? :D

I am a student, and college campus means 3 inches or under. Whether I'll be in class affects my one hander... But this is not one hand specific..
I like to have one one hand opening knife clipped in my front pocket, and a case stockman (love that cv) in my back. Just about 3 inches is big enough to cut a steak and not freak anyone out.. And I'll have a Spyerco sage 2 for 3 inches otherwise that or a chokwe, BM710, other 3.5-4 in one hander.. So I am not a knife nut, and I don't carry three hinderers with me.. But I might if I had them.
Why? Because Knives are AWESOME!

Because a Leatherman wave technically has 3 blades all over 3"?

Between 3"-3.5" is kind of a sweet spot for manufacturers, tons of knives fall in that catagory. If you carry more than one knife, it's pretty easy to end up with multiples over 3" because that's a lot of whats out there.

I move knives around all the time, depending on where I'm going, what I'm wearing, etc...and I don't always take the time to think/check when I grab a different jacket or pack, so I just grab a knife on my way out to make sure I've got one. Often, that results in me having 3-4 - between the one in my pants pocket, one in my jacket, and one or two in my pack. All I care about is that I have one if I want/need it...if that means I end up with extras, I'm okay with that.

I do sometimes but I've never actually needed to. Its mostly just my knife addiction rather than a justifiable reason.

Are you just curious or are you trying for subtly disapproving? ;)

Curious if it was profession oriented... Said this three times but no one reads. ..

Perhaps you should have limited you inquiry to relating our EDC to our professions and not otherwise justify doing so if our proffesions do not require it.

I carry multiple 3" + blades seven days a week (I don't work weekends) because I CAN. that's it.

Why do most of us have more knives than we'll ever need in a lifetime?
No rhyme or reason required.

This is the kind of question I would expect from a non knife person
Us knife guys do what we want when we want to and however we want it done. Otherwise we wouldn't be knife guys. I guess I shouldn't speak for everyone but that how I feel :D

Well as a knife guy myself. I spend countless hours researching the quality of a knife. Its design, materials, production build and I'm sure most of us do. So my logic circuits get a little disjointed in wondering why would someone carry the extra weight of two 3.75 blades for example. It appears to me redundant. But maybe its because I'm being pragmatic about it. Like I said I have a multi tool in my bag, a peanut traditional in my pocket and at work a full size traditional trapper. I wouldn't expect any one of them to fail under my normal use.

I wouldn't expect a sebenza, an adamas or pm2 to fail under normal use and further more adding a fixed blade on top. So that's a lot of redundancy in an edc load out... Unless there is a need for redundancy or its just fun because someone is a knife guy....and can. I wasn't being faceitous about it. The question was very much knife guy oriented.

I don't know if most people base the knives they carry on their jobs. Many people might, but I think most of us carry 1-3 knives just based on our personal preferences instead of professions.

This.

I could get by with one larger knife yes but carrying multiple is fun and I choose which knife I use by the job at hand.

My recent pairs:
Small Sebenza & spyderco GB
Small Sebenza & ontario Utilitac
Small Sebenza (noticing a pattern here?) & NJJ knives 3" EDC fixed place
And for harder jobs
GB or Utilitac and my recent acquired Ka-Bar.
Utilitac & BM 710

A lot of times its a smaller and a larger blade but some times, job dependent I'll carry multiple large knives.

Above is a small sebbie and something else not two big knives with 3.75ers...for blades!

Technically I guess I carry three blades as well. I have a large Leatherman on my hip and a mini on my keys. Then, I have a large Sebenza in my pocket.

I am a Branch Manager at a bank.
