Just curious...who edc's more than one 3" plus bladed knife...

You guys are reading too quick. I'm not asking why you carry multiple knives....im asking why you carry several very large knives...so the question doesn't apply to everyone.

The answer is the same: because we can. Size of knife is irrelevant.

I personally don't see the point of carrying two full sized (3" or greater folders) knives. I'm already conscious of the possibility of losing a nice knife, I would worry too much about two. Then there's the weight thing, and the pocket real estate thing. I do however carry a SAK or traditional in addition to my modern folder.

This week at work i had on my person - bk14, 8OT, Vic deluxe tinker and an endura. The 8OT is more of a worry stone at work but I hate reaching in my LF pocket and it not being there. The Vic is for the tools. As to your question, the bk14 and endura (sometimes I carry multiple folders and no fixed). I think the utility difference between fixed and folding is sufficient enough that it doesn't need explaining - right tool for the job. On the days I carry multiple folders, often in the same size range, there is usually a good difference in their prices. So one is carried because I love the knife(and most tasks will be done with this knife), the other is carried for more abusive tasks and possible lending of knife to coworker. In my case it is the job (construction)..... Or at least that is what I tell myself.

I EDC a neck knife with at least a 3.5" blade daily and I EDC a belt knife that is at least 4" daily. My belt knife rotates through several different models between 4" and 5", but most are under 4.625". My neck knife for the past 5 months has been a CPM 20CV knife I have been testing that comes in at 3.98" blade.
I do not carry a folder any longer, just a multitool and 2 fixed knives.

I don't have a need for large knives outside of the kitchen. The largest knife I carry regularly is a Gayle Bradley. I usually carry a Spyderco and a full sized trapper or 3.5"-3 7/8" slipjoint. Two is the most I carry if I don't count the tiny SAK on my keychain. Always a modern 1 hand opener and a slipjoint. The slipjoints do most of the work.

I can't answer the OP's question. I'm curious about the redundancy as well. I get that people do it for fun but it seems odd to me to carry so many. To each his own I suppose.

I work in an office. I used to do firefighting and light construction. I carry a small, sub 3 in folder in my pants, to not scare the office folk. This blade is mainly used for my lunch food prep...and opening envelopes. I carry a BK24 either in my "purse" or in my waist band. I do this because you never know when you are going to need a sturdy fixed blade. Maybe that's just a left over mindset from my emergency response days....but I like to be prepared for just about anything, and see nothing wrong with that. I also keep a Leatherman wave in my bag.

I think this is a legit question. But as you can see some guys get defensive when you ask why they carry what they carry.
I carry 2 knives one large modern folder (ZT 801,560,566) and one medium traditional slip joint.

Different tools for different situations.

I'm a stay at home dad and usually carry a 3.5" folder and my Leatherman Sidekick. (pliers & screwdrivers  )

Oh...and she likes it too...

I always carry two knives, one ~3" and one ~3.75" typically, though sometimes I carry multiple larger knives if the mood strikes me. I do so because I love my knives - I never NEED two large blades, or even one. Heck, 99.9% of my knife use is just opening boxes and packaging (I work in a chem/bio lab) and a single 1" blade would serve just as well.

I don't ever plan to use a knife for self-defense, though I like to carry a knife suitable for tactical use purely because I enjoy them. I live in one of the lowest-crime cities in the world, and the legal hassle of even brandishing a deadly weapon in self defense is not worth it (insert rant about CA laws here).

It's the sort of question asked by non-knife people. It's also the same sort of question as "Why do you feel the need to carry two handguns?" Defensive? There's no defense necessary.

The exact question was:

"So just curious what do you for a living or tell us why you need to have three knives on your person.... "

Why we need to have? And then OP got mad at the sort of responses he got, can't imagine why.

How many blades anyone carries is just as much a matter of opinion and experience as what type of knife they carry. I have had knives in my pocket and on my belt since I was five and I carry what I carry because of my particular experience and preference. Its a culmination of knowing what kind of tools I might need throughout my day and doing what I enjoy. No ones experience or opinion is particularly right or wrong except to them and what they get out of it. What we gain as a community is that although we all share a singular passion (bladed tools) we have vast and diverse matters of experience and opinions. This diversity is actually very positive and is one of the elements that fuels an industry and keeps our hobby, lifestyle, or obsession alive.

That's out of context and you come off as dense and defensive.

I qualified my statement prior with why would you need to carry a pm2, tenacious and a fixed blade as the example. Not why do people carry more than one knife. Not why does someone carry one fixed blade and a folder, not why does one carry a giant folder and sak which are all normal.

I spefically asked out of curiosity why do some people carry two large folders that are known for being tough and a fixed blade which seems redundant to me. Its not my problem if people can't read, get defensive and their feelings are hurt.

The real underlying question is why the triple redudancy where you sacrifice weight and space in your daily load out. So dont go insinuating what you thought I meant as you are off base.

I'm not dense in the slightest. Don't blame me or others for your poorly worded sentence. Hint: "It seems redundant to me" is more of the same. You came off as a non-knife person, questioning others' personal choices. Stop acting like we must have reading problems. Either we pegged you correctly, or else you have issues making your point clear. Which is it?

As for space and weight, what? We aren't talking about someone walking around with a backpack weighing 60lbs, we're talking about pocket knives. I could carry fifteen knives in the pockets of my jeans, and wouldn't feel burdened at all. I have boots that weigh more than nearly my entire folder collection combined. Are you serious with that?

Carry an EMT with glass breaker and seat belt cutter in may MaxPedition day bag, a 530 Pardu w/out clip in front pocket and a self defense knife in my back pocket.

Your original question left room for people to get their panties in a wad - if that's their inclination. Your several clarifications of the question (perfectly legitimate) just leaves room for people to be jerks - if that's their inclination.
