Just curious...who edc's more than one 3" plus bladed knife...

Okay. I live rural and carry whatever I want merely for kicks. Sometimes it will be a charge TTI with a victorinox hunter xt or a a simple brass bolster lock back which is in 440c and looks similar to a buck 110 ... but isn't. Occasionally I will strap a 4"or 4.5" fixed blade to my leg as well. Yesterday I was carrying the lock-back, tti, Xt and a mini swiss army knife as well as 10m of cord a flint and a pocket whetstone. The point is that people do end up in extraordinary situations everyday and you can die. There is no point in owning a a 3'knife that could save your life if everything goes awry if you left it on your bedside table.
I'm not trying to be mean or aggressive, all i'm saying is the boyscouts motto is "be prepared" for a reason.

I always have a fixed blade in my backpack, which I have most days. I usually am also carrying a folder. If I'm carrying a not so people friendly main folder, I may also carry a smaller traditional or something.

Totally OK! This thread isn't judgmental. It was so I could learn why some folks carried three size large overbuilt knives. Which seemed redundant to me. As a lot more folks I believe like to vary their edc up with one large knife and then others of different sizes. I have a slippie in my pocket at all times an in my bag is a spyderco ukpk and a mt. All different sized but handy tools for urban living. Its different for people in other places. I.e some dude from Alaska responded. If I lived in Alaska I'd have a truck and I'd have everything but the kitchen sink in there just to be prepared. All.

I don't have any super expensive fine folders like a Sibenzas, but if I did, I suspect I would carry an equal sized buck or kershaw to loan to those non knife people that ask for your knife and do something stupid with it like try to pry a crate open, cut drywall, or use it as a screwdriver. Now I try to remember to ask them what they need it for!

I'm a perfect example of knife guy carrying just because he likes knives.
I'a labour law lawyer in Buenos Aires.
I have absolutely NO NEED at all for a knife in my pocket. Maybe, and a long and distant maybe, I could justify a SAK o leatherman micre or juice, you know, for very small tasks that randomly can happen to any person.
Nevertheless, I carry a hold out I in front pocket, and a manix xl 2 in back pocket. The hold out I is very light, and it's a 6 inch knife. I'm tall, so I don't feel it. I practice every day to draw and inertia open it, so I'm pretty confident with it.
The manix xl 2 is my beater and go to knife.
the hold out it's my shtf knife. never used it.
Also I carry in a pouch in my belt, a juice.

And I carry always some type of flexible chain weapon, also just because I can, because I mall ninja guy. Some times is a 7 section shaolin whip, some times is a manriki kusari, etc.

I must say that I have ONCE tighten a bolt on my daughter's bike, and do stuff like cutting cheese, meat, vegetables, with the manix xl 2, but just...because I can, not because I have to ;)

I usually have a few knives in my truck and one knife in my pocket, preferably a 4" blade if it's a folder or sometimes a little under 4 inches but I'm not a big fan of carrying under 3.5 inch blades.

I always have a folder in my pocket. Most of the time I bring a fixed blade in my backpack to work. Has to be in my backpack - my harley is my transportation and i have no bags. (Would make my stripped down brawler of a bike look goofy) Usually just so I can either try it out for the day or because I might really need it that day. I cut a shitload of stuff daily. I could get most of my work stuff done with a folder but my main love is fixed blades. On the weekends I use the hell out of my fixed blades. I do the outdoor thing often.

I have an office job and would have to carry something small so it doesn't lay sideways in my pocket and look ridiculous.

To get around that, I carry a Sebenza (or ZT) quite often in a CRK slip pouch which stands upright in my front pocket and it is really much less noticeable.

On weekends I carry two, one for SD like a Civilian or Emerson CQC8 (never know but I watch the news and I might be that "random guy" someday - it happens) and another like a CRK, Spyderco Ulize or ZT 0560/0566 or Benchmade 710 for normal everyday use.

I use my own knife in restaurants sometimes instead of theirs.

Cretin, I know! :bull_head: :concern:

Occasionally. Yesterday I had my PM2 and a Gayle Bradley, but usually if I have two on me it's a bigger knife and a smaller knife.

I always have 2-3 knives, and they're almost always larger than three inches. usually in the 4 inch range. That being said, I could probably get by with a single blade, but I like having multiples because I like knives. Also, I usually have one that is a lower end beater just in case I need to do something with it that I might not want to do with a 300 dollar blade. That's why Cara Cara knives exist.

I don't have any specific pairings I carry, just whatever I feel like carrying for the day. Today it's a Microtech DOC, Spyderco Szabo, and a Cara Cara 1.

And as far as job goes, I'm a Marine Corps Officer. Lets me get away with a lot as far as blades go.

Yup. That happens every time someone takes a freaking knife to borrow. Next thing you know they're trying to chisel concrete with it.

For me its all about redundancy. Two is one, one is none, but three is even better. I carry my becker bk16, benchmade adamas, and a cold steel ti lite.

Occasionally I do carry more than one 3"+ bladed knife. Today, for example, I have a 3.4" Manix 2 LW in my front pocket, a Brian Tighe Nirk Tighe (4") in my back pocket, a Spyderco Air in with my phone, and a Gerber Shortcut (mini-tool) in my other front pocket. A combo of 3 knives & a mini-tool is not unusual although which ones they might be can, and with the exception of the shortcut, does, vary. :)

This is exactly why one "needs" to carry more than one knife. And if one feels that there is justification for more than one type of knife for different applications then the redundancy reasoning above applies multiple times.

I carry a Leatherman Surge with a complement of blades built in, plus usually a 4"-4.5" fixed blade and a 3.5" - 4" folder. Why?

Lots of reasons. I'm a product designer and professional engineer. I often take product apart, I cut things, I modify items, I open boxes by the pallet full, I work on home renos and barn structural evaluations. I camp, hike and boat. And I believe in being prepared at ALL times. That's why the Surge, if I'm going to carry a multitool, it should be capable.

I have carried knives my whole life... Starting in public school. *gasp*

I carry around 4-6 knives always, is it necessary? Absolutely not but the point is that its fun and I love knives (who here doesnt:D) but I like them all to be diverse so I have plenty of options. I always have a zt 0170 combat knife in my boot for survival/defensive situations, a leatherman squirt ps4 for the usual multi tool stuff, and a spyderco manbug in zdp-189 so I always have something with very high edge retention. Then the other knives I carry get changed every week to keep things interesting and so none of my knives sit around too long. This week I have a buck 301 stockman because of the versatility the 3 different blades offer, a kershaw s30v blur as my main user and a spyderco resilience for my defensive folder. Of course I would do fine with just one or two knives but wheres the fun in that when you have so many other knives you could carry and play with too?

I like to carry 2 blades because I feel like there's merit to having one that's hair-popping sharp at any given moment, and one that's used for rougher cutting jobs that don't necessarily need a face-shaving edge. The fact that all of my knives are over 3" means those two will be on the larger side of the folding spectrum.

I do also recognize how much enjoyment factors into my decision to carry two, however, and feel like I carry two for the same reason people wear a bunch of rings or whatver - it gives them pleasure to carry and use them.
