If I had lost a $200 flashlight? I would go home, raise a beer to my dear departed light, and then make damn sure any future flashlights had super, strong lanyards and that I was more careful over water or any substantial height.

My suggestion: All-risks insurance. Well worth it for expensive items you carry a lot!
