Just finished one I like

Tell me more about this "spaulted steel" process. It's really the coup d'gras that makes the knife. absolutely fantastic.

Really nice, Andy:thumbup: I think you did an awesome job on your buddy's design, which is pretty darn good too!

I'm not usually a fan of burl on knives, but man that handle looks nice. Your handles always stand out.

Talk to you soon!

FANTASTIC! Could you give a rundown of how you get such nice fit& finish(no gaps etc) and how ya do your handles? awesome knife

Just noticed your handle tutorial sorry! but how do you get your flats so flat? surface grinder?

Thanks. I like the way it looks too, especially on Scandi knives. Check this out:

I have no surface grinder. The 01 I usually use is precision ground. Sometimes CPM 154 isn't, still, haven't had to worry about steel flatness. Theres an easy test. Flatten your scale material. I use a piece of gladd with sandpaper on it. You should be able to blow the dust off, and put the scales together with almost no pressure, and see no light between them. Then, do the same thing on the tang.

To aid in flattening, hollow out the middle of whatever needs flatening with the wheel on your grinder. Then you're just flattening the edges. Its a drastic reduction in surface area to flatten, and quickens the pace to almost no time at all. I do this on the steel and on the scales. (Again, not my idea, got it from Tracey Mickley.)

Lovely knife, but what is spalted O1? (looks like somebody just beat me to that question) ;) :)

Oh. Spalted 01 is simply 01 that looked spalted to me one day. No magic difference from any other bar of 01.

Very nice Andy! :)

Really reminds me of a Marbles as well.

I gotta admit I'm a bit disappointed to know that pattern on the bevel is just oil... I really wanted to know how to replicate it! :D :)

Yeah, but WHAT KIND OF OIL DID YOU USE? Where can I get it in 5 gals.? Seriously though, I really like it. It's very unique looking, and well executed. The color scheme caps it for me. Good job.

Haha. You go spend a few hours trying to replicate streaks. LOL.

Its super secret oil. No. Its Hanwei Sword Oil. Comes in a little spray bottle. Its the best thing I've found for shows, and pre-shipping oil of the blades. If I can't find that though, mineral oil works just fine.:p

A keeper for sure. Double dyed box elder is one of my favorites.
