Just finished this one with a Ostrich leg bone handle(pic)

Double that! Outstanding filework. Great shaping, better than the kinda flat filework I have been able to do so far. Loods more like carving.

(Jumping into the fray) Beautiful work Bruce! I really like the patterning on the blade and the cutout on the bottom. Those are really fun. BTW, how much are you selling it for? I wouldn't mind seeing the prices on all your work in all the forums, and I think you should post pics in every single one of 'em!

When idiots jump into places where they are not invited and start sh!t like that it really bums me out. Make no mistake, this jerk is not invited and not wanted on BFC or anywhere else for that matter. I suggest counciling for his antisocial tendencies. When he's ready to join the human race he can come back and talk about knives.

I can see where someone who hasn't been around too long might think that Bruce shows off a lot, but when you've got his chops it's more than just allowed-it's encouraged!

Another Beauty Bruce !! I especially like the new curly cue thingy at the choil.

Im not sure I know what san mai is but from the discussion Ill guess its one type of steel sandwiched between something else. What is the benefit to this type of construction ??
Now what about a Forged persian ? Something with a nifty upswept blade kinda like http://home.att.net/~a.boriqua/Fowler_ruler_right.htm
But with some bruce on it. Any pix of any around? Have you done any?

Bruce asked for his thread not to be stomped on with an arguement but I just have to add that this guy is a gentleman of the highest order and shameless self promotion isnt his gig. I am one of those that asked bruce a long time ago to post some of his pix on Custom as well. I never visited Shop and spoted his knife on acccident one day when I did. I now come to shop everyday but that wasnt always the case and I know a majority of visitors are NOT visiting shop. I see no problem with him showing his knife to his peers here for their comments and in another forum for other peoples enjoyment.

Thanks for the kind words everybody.
Fountainman,The price on this knife is $500.00 plus shipping.
Alex. The benefits to doing the San-Mai construction is that you can use two pieces of steel that are of low carbon or are of a questionable alloy and sandwich a piece of high carbon steel in the middle,This way you are sure that you will have a good strong and hard cutting edge. That is a neat looking knife you showed ,I haven't done any real persians as of the present time but I am sure that i could do one with some of my touches.

Nice work on the knife.
If you are posting to much im sure the goderator will put the edit - moved to another forum sign on the thread.

Relax. Have a great time. Show your work and advancments.

Its easy when folks get behind a computer. They become brave key warriors. Ouh... scary huh? The best way to deal with them is to IGNORE them. If they know there getting to you they will continue to act like morons.

As for the comment about CNC above. The problem with folks who are UN EDUCATED about what goes into making a knife is that they spit fire with out EXPERIENCE.

If a maker does the work on his knives in his shop what is the problem. If you think its easy to make a knife CNC or otherwise , come on over. When were done you will look like a
coal miner after 12 hours in the mine.

Some makers believe in being advanced. Some dont. There is no right and wrong. Some will try to say there is. BUT they dont make knives or if they do they are just jealous.

Do you really think a cnc machine makes the knife and spits it out the other end of the process. HAHAHHHAHHAHHAHAHA

A process that is 10 times worse than a advanced knifemaker is a semi factory. These guys buy the parts for there knives finished from vendors. Then they just put them together and claim custom.

I prefer to make everything I can in my shop.
My customers like it also.

If you dont like the small amount of pictures here in ST well to bad. We welcome new pics of new item that makers have worked hard to get done. Post away. Just dont post the same picture over and over. Sound good?

I apologize! I was just trying to get my post count waaaaay up like bugs so that I too could be an expert on knives and people here.
Then someone else jumps in my face and suggests counseling in order to join the human race.

I just want to be perfect and without faults like all you guys.
Excuse me for thinking the gallery forum was for pics or the for sale by maker was for selling knives. I come to shop talk for information about making knives, not seeing pics of a knife for sale from every conceivable angle which takes my old computer 2-3 minutes to load them. Wouldn't one nice pic of a knife be sufficient? I too enjoy seeing new knives pictured here just not an entire brochure on it. Then it always comes down to someone wanting to know the price and Bruce responds $*** plus shipping. Now as a newbie you are going to tell me this doesn't look like more of an advertisement? Well, I work in advertising so nice try.
I mentioned the fact that Bruce posted the exact same pics and thread in many different forums and got the lame response of "well not everyone reads all the forums so it reaches more people!" Another advertising method
smile.gif
Did it ever occur to this guy that maybe thats why people dont read every forum??? Maybe the don't want to see the same thing over and over?
Then Bruce himself tells me that is enough out of me and all I ever said to him was that I did think he does nice work and I also liked the pics. Damn freindly bunch of guys here! Glad I am not part of your little group. Have a great time patting each other on the backs constantly and jumping on new guys with a slightly different opinion and running them off

Hey Bruce, that knife is beautiful. I'm just starting to make knives myself, I have one I've been working on and if it turns out a quarter as nice as that one I'll be one happy camper! Anyway keep up the good work. (and when I harden my blades I think I'll point them at Hell also) LMAO! Take care.

Bruce Evans---I am sorry that I have not met you and hope that some day I might have that pleasure. I like your style, your attitude, your knives, your pictures, your tutorials and your response to unwarranted criticism. Bravo!

In reading a lot of the recent postings on this forum and others dealing with Knives as a general topic I have found a disturbing trend. It has struck me that in our fine knife society many have decided that they have enough anonymity to say insulting things in a area read by thousands because they have a user name and no email address so no one knows who we are. This is exactly the reason why people are more willing to get upset and use profanity and obscene gestures from their cars in a road rage type mentality. Ask your self this question if you were standing in front of a knife makers table at the blade show where a lot of people could see you acting stupid would you still be so critical…I don’t think so.

How many of us remember when Blade Magazine, Knives Illustrated, and Fighting Knives were the only way we could get information on custom knives. I bought every issue I could afford and do now so I can reference the pictures of fine made knives when ever I have time and it helps me keep my feet grounded and allows me to compare my knives to that of others.

Today we have the ability to get on line and express our ideas and also our opinions. I wonder how many of us would be so critical if we actually still had to set pen to paper and send is a reply to a knife magazine and wait for our opinion to be posted. Luckily as part of our new access to knife making information we have knife makers, like Bruce Evans, who not only post great pictures of their knives but also willing to sacrifice their personal time answering questions and making tutorials that help us all.

I have to admit I do a lot more reading than posting on any forum due to the fact that I feel that I am learning and there are a lot of others on the forums that are more versed on making knives.

Thanks Bruce for the pictures, tutorials, answered questions and future info.

Beautiful knife, Bruce. I saw it in the main forum and originally didn't click on the link, since I had already looked at it. Makes sense to me. But then I wanted to see what the bruhaha was about and thought I would add my "well done" to the stack. Really beautiful.

Bruce,

I just wanted to drop by and compliment you on one beautiful knife. Post away, I can look at knives like this one all day long.

BTW, does your tang extend all the way back to the buttcap? Do you have a sheath for this one?

n2s

Not2sharp,This is a 3/4 tang design. The tang is extended with a threaded bolt with the head at the end and then it is flattened down so it will fit into the hole.and then the bolt is left bigger than the original tang. This way it is locked into the epoxy really well since the hole in the bone is tappered from the back to the frontand is not a perfect circle itself. This way the epoxy is like a plug and the tang is locked into it.The buttcap has a screw siver brazed onto it that locks into the epoxy at the end.
As for the sheath, this knife does come with one.But I haven't made it yet as I was going to offer either a sheath with a bootclip and or a strap and snap secure system or not,or I would make a pouch sheath for it.Which ever the customer wants. If I was going to a show I would probably just do a pouch for it.But yes it does come with a sheath....

Great blade AGAIN AS ALWAYS. Just keep posting those inspirational pictures.:p
Its funny how a fisherman just keeps going back to the same place as long as the fish keep bitting. If all the fish stopped bitting the fisherman would go fish someplace else.
Well its of to the shop for some forge welding. Might have a picture or 5 to send back at ya Bruce in a month or so.;)

Just wanted to reinforce what others have said.
Keep on posting your pics Bruce. Ypur knives are awesome and your joy in making them very apparent. And I know personally that you will help anyone with no hesitation.

(my first post here, hope this works)
