Just for Fun!!! WHO ARE YOU???

I’m a terrible husband for last 21 years, trying father to a 21 year old Lady piglet, she recently left the sorority house and got her own place. Tried to guide her down a path so she wouldn’t have to struggle like her mother and I did for years and steered her towards nursing. But alas she had a terrible experience in her first year and now is in college for teaching. She was gifted with knowledge I bestowed upon her from being a police officer for the last 15 years. Showed her every manner of the dredges of society and the mistakes people made. I believe it helped as she is generally the DD for all her friends and ship leaves the bars at midnight. So I gave her a pistol and Swamp Rat Howling Rat as departure house warming gifts. Used to drag her to Blade and Knob Creek so a few of the hogs got to meet her. She loved Barbara & Chuck and slept in her arms through most of a Fogo De Chao dinner. I miss them….

Gravelcub 16, came in 2008, he’s kept me pretty busy through baseball from about 4-14yo. I have pictures somewhere cutting his umbilical cord for a satin Snakeskin AD somewhere. Trying to teach a lefty to throw and shoot has challenged me and my patience. Now he competes in Sporting Clays. But he’s a junior currently and looking to be a lineman. But he’s my anchor to the outdoors between hunting and fishing. And rebuilding / repairing a 76 F100.

Used to buy a LOT of older Busses, still my favorites, when I was working in an oil refinery. But hated every minute of plant life and after a scary experience of being in a unit that caught fire, decided I had to leave. So I chose a much less dangerous career move to become a police officer. Lady Gravel hated it, mainly going from eating steak every night to top ramen. It really put a strain on…..well everything and finally 15 years later, we are finally getting back on track. Lead to being very adept into the trading world to get the knives I NEEDED!!!

I did just shy of 4 years in the Army. 1 tour to Iraq 2004. Roadside bomb ended my service. I was given an opportunity to reclass to non combat MOS but being young and angry that I was deemed “non combat effective” due to injuries, I opted to leave. 15 years as an Officer now, did a stint as Fleet supervisor, ordering units and equipment, installing and mainly dealing with vendors. Went to Detectives for about 2 years, which was incredibly fun, and now a Sergeant back in patrol. I’m about to start claiming half my shift for tax purposes as much as have to give life lessons and raise these kids on my shift. I’m the old man at 45, and trying to relate to people 22 years old is mind blowing. They were raised on their phones and 3 minute videos. Can’t talk movies or music because apparently they don’t / or can’t sit through a 2 hour movie.

This year I realized I was killing myself after ballooning up to 324lbs so been eating right (or better at least) and currently down to a svelte 245 now. But whisky and cigars are still a vice I refuse to shake. Shooting for another 20lb loss. Moved the family about 30 miles outside from where we stayed on a little 11 acre cow pasture. Started planting a couple fruit trees with plans for more. And look forward to actually gardening in 2025. I think that’s about it for the Cliff notes.

Gravelface,

Cant believe the kids are that old now. Seems like yesterday we were hanging at Knob Creek with you all.

I hear you on missing Barb and Chuck. She was an angel on earth and Chuck was always great to talk to.

Stay safe Brother.

Garth

Grew up a feral farm kid.

I love dirt so much I studied it in college.

I work in industrial refrigeration (ammonia).

Besides my ridiculous love affair with knives, I have an even more imbalanced love for bicycles.

Bicycles have brought me more joy and suffering than I care to admit.

19 years sober.

I feel like I know many of you guys at this point. Still a rookie here for the most part. I joined Blade Forums chasing INFI, 3V, SR101 and 5160. Los Angeles is home even though I’ve been leaving the S__thole for good about 20 years now. I work with a team of 5 people in some of the worst parts of our city trying to establish positive behavioral changes in people experiencing extreme situations ( violence, addiction, gang activity, prostitution, homelessness etc). If anyone is ever thinking of visiting this city I’ll be sure to tell you where to avoid 😂. There are some damn good people on this forum, too many to name here - A few have really helped me though some challenging situations the past 7 + years. Thank you all for having me. Haven’t had a drink since 02/06/2015.. the 20 years before that date are something I never want to repeat.

The woofer in the pic is Sam.. was rescued from a fentanyl camp last October.. Ben my sidekick sidekick since 11/11/23 - best friend you could ask for - covered in mud in that pic 🥇.

*Busse Basics are the Best Busse’s
*Emerson knives have probably been the most consistent thing I’ve carried since 98.. have one in my pocket now.

Grew up listening to fast music - the progression finally peaked mid 2000 in my opinion.

People I looked up too growing up

Skateboarding, Bikes, adrenaline took up most of my life from 4 to 34 years old - now in my mid 40’s and the days of crashing are catching up. No more.

Knives have been my favorite thing besides dogs my entire life - it’s getting worse ( more expensive ) every passing year. Lynn C Thompson is who I blame for my addiction to Carbon steel knives , Jerry Busse didn’t help the situation, Gossman S7 keeps me moving in the same direction and Carothers just reiterated the point of hard use tools.

Stay safe out there wherever you are

I’m a civil engineer.
I grew up in the country on ~6 ac.
My dad was a USMC sniper, structural ironworker, mechanical engineer, high school teacher, beekeeper, tinkered in blacksmithing, built a stagecoach by taking measurements at a local carriage museum and in the 1980’s was the 4th largest metalworking (ornamental ironwork, knife making, etc.) book dealer in the world. I sure miss him.🙏

I am a boy from the country that took a Govt job in the city knowing that it would send me back to the country to a quiet gig. After all these years I have not yet gone back to the country as the Govt saw things in me back then I didn’t and in all the years that have past I have been placed and done things that were not in the original job description. I have seen the best of people and the absolute worst, sadly I am one of those that knows that monsters live among us. Life has thrown me a few curve balls and the last couple of years have been tough after a 22yr relationship ended. Still working through the administration of that so I can re-establish myself and a place I can call home. Still a way to go with that. As I enter the last decade of my career I am hoping to spend the last 5yrs or so in that quiet backwater I wanted to start in. Not sure I will get it though as they always seem to have some more “special role” for me.

44 years old, live in Canada unfortunately lol. Have a Boxer/mastiff/rotti named Lulu. Worked selling electronics for 12 years until about 5 years ago had major health issues, fiancee left me and can no longer work. I'm no longer mobile either. I used to enjoy camping and concerts, going to the movies and collecting and using knives. Can't really do those things anymore. Either through not being able to physically do them or because i can't afford it being on disability. That's about it I guess.

Thought it might be fun to get to know each other a bit more. I realize many people don't like to divulge their real names and I respect that, but WHO ARE YOU???

If you can share who you are as far as:

-What do you do for a living?

-What are your hobbies?

-Favorite sports team?

-Any other info that may give us a glimpse of who you are?

I'll go first.

I am a knife maker at Busse Combat as well as the Production Manager. I spend most of my free time with my wife and 4 kids. Well 3 kids, as my daughter is away at college. Pretty much hate that as I don't get to see her as much as I would like. We have a herd of horses that the kids show and we trail ride for fun whenever we have an opportunity. We do a bit of farming, mostly hay to feed said horses. I enjoy hunting when time permits. Mostly whitetail hunting but occasionally I will take the young ones out after squirrel or rabbits. Not much into bird hunting as I hate cleaning birds. Do enjoy fishing on occasion, mostly just at the pond, catch and release type. If I am going to eat fish then it will be in the form of sushi. Don't like cleaning fish much either. We recently opened up a small horse tack shop as well. Figured we are already neck deep in the horse world so why not go a bit further. Just what I needed, another job!!!

As far as sports go, football is my thing. I have been a 49ers fan since back in the days of Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. College football is Ohio State and have been following Ball State football for the last few years since that is where my daughter attends college.

And any other free time I have is spent playing with my car. Dodge Challenger Scat Pack with a 392 Hemi. Stupid fast but tons of fun. Still have the H2 Hummer and my day to day get around vehicle is a F350 Lariat. Helps that I don't have much of a commute to work. I generally put on about 25 miles a week on the truck. I have had that truck since 2014 and just hit 40,000 miles last week.

So that's a glimpse into who I am. WHO ARE YOU?

Hey hey

I’m a trucker (have been for a bit) but was once a soldier.
I’ve harbored an unhealthy obsession with knives since I thought girls had cooties. Between knives and women, the amount of money that has passed through my hands…
I live in Florida but grew up in rural New York.
Other than knives, I have also spent quite a bit enjoying shooting sports.
I have such a huge soft spot for reptiles, and I have a few pet snakes, and could never bring myself to harm a reptile. I find a rattlesnake around my home, I’ll catch and release.
I’m a big fan of Ozzy, and it’ll hurt bad when we lose him.
I’m a left-handed Capricorn. Really not bragging here. 🤨
I once worked at Disney World, and did so for twelve years. Nothing will destroy your faith in humanity like the happiest place on Earth.
I once visited The Mozart Museum in Salzburg in Austria. It was his apartment back in his day. If you look out the front window and peek up the road, you could see the McDonald’s. Who knows what it was in his day.
A few years ago, I got head-butted by a giraffe. Giraffes are dicks.
People question me about this, but Dr. Hannibal Lecter is my alltime favorite fictional superhero. I do have an explanation.
I have two different sized feet. Buying shoes has always been a challenge my entire adult life.
The only way I like potatoes is raw. Everything else done with them is a damned shame.
I once held open a door for Michael Jackson. No, of course he didn’t talk to me.
I don’t care what anyone says- I don’t look all that bad for my age.
Perhaps I shouldn’t be proud of this, but I smile whenever admiring those pretty young ladies on Instagram. You just gotta see this Mikayla Demaiter!!! No really! Go check her out.
My early formative years were heavily influenced by Sid & Marty Krofft. Some years later, Ozzy and Pink Floyd. Oh, and the Duke Boys heavily influenced my driving habits in the early/mid eighties.
Now that I’m approaching sixty, I’ve realized I was right all along. Girls do have cooties, and they’re bad for your health.

Nice to see all the other Busse fanatics.

I'm a prisoner in the communist America regime of California. By trade, I run my own business as a firearms instructor as well as a consultant and trainer for active threat assessment/management. My obvious hobbies/interest, in addition to knives, are firearms and watches (which I also actively trade and sell, though as much for fun as for profit). I am sometimes a high school Sunday School teacher for my church, which I enjoy immensely.

I've been married for 27 years and have two daughters, one that recently graduated from college and another in her final semester.

Sports teams:, though I haven't watched as much recently due to all the kneeling during the national anthem nonsense, I'm a lifelong 49er, Lakers and Angels fan. Looking forward to reading everyone's profiles.

Alex
