Just For Fun

Colt 2nd Generation Single Action Army in .45 Colt ('cause they don't make a .46 as old Joaquin Jackson used to say), 5 1/2 inch barrel, with a extra .45 auto cylinder. Or a decent Colt WWI 1911. Or both.

For many years I carried an old Colt Bisley .44-40 that came up out of Chihuahua - was taken from a mining company in Hidalgo del Parral during one of Villa's raids. After a few shots of good Reposado, it becomes Pancho's own personal sidearm - quien sabe? Viva Villa!

Honestly? My 4 digit serial Colt 1911 first year production. Yeah I know you hear all these things about the heat treating on the steel but I shoot her quite bit. She was made to be shot and she's mine. Most accurate gun I have.

I love .45's and .44's, and the 1911 is the perfect defense sidearm, proven over and over again. But if I could only have one gun, it would probally be my Ruger BlackHawk .45 convertible.

HD Kephart and Ruger a perfect combo

Now if I could have two, it would be my Ruger .45 and .44.

My .357 seven shot revolver. It's light, accurate, and powerful enough to handle anything I would encounter around here be it protection or hunting. I certainly would not want to hunt with it, but it could handle the job. I'd choose a revolver as there are far fewer parts which means less failure points, they are just plain simple, and pretty much bomb proof. Plus being a .357 you can always shoot .38. One gun two ammo choices.

I'm going to have to say an HK P30s. I was just thinking the other day how much I love my USP, but improvements on the ergos would make it perfect. Therefore....the P30.

I already own it! Sig Sauer P229 Equinox in .40 cal.

it is a great shooter, I've put well over 10,000 rounds thru it and have never had so much as a hiccup. easy to strip and clean, super accurate, and .40 is pretty affordable when bought in bulk.

Hi John -

I would go for the S&W M&P R8 Performance Center .357

8 shots, shoots .38 special and +p, matte black, compensated, full cover grip, and the performance center worked action which means a very nice da trigger break.

I was going to get one of these this year, but then I found that Kimber RCP II.....

Next year this is my goal.

best

That's just about perfect right there!
I am partial to my Baretta 92M, but that what I use in action pistol matches. As far as one handgun only a .357 revolver is as good as it gets. I am going to have to look at that S&W to go with my Marlin lever rifle.

I`m still debating between four guns, got to narrow it down.
I'm having the same issue but giving it some thought. Looking through my handguns and trying to use my head more than my heart.

Update: There was no clear cut winner but I chose my S&W 686. I know that it would serve me well as a defensive weapon and is accurate enough for any hunting I would ever need. It was tough not choosing my Ruger 3-screw Blackhawk but picked the Smith over it due to ease of carrying concealed if necessary.

I`ve narrowed it down to two. Either my 1996 Kimber .45, or my stainless Ruger New Model Vaquero, in .357.

When you ask questions like that, it makes my head hurt and gives me chest pains. I would like to say a custom 1911 or a HK P-30, but if I could only have one handgun for everything, I would chose a suppressed Ruger .22. it's accurate, fun to shoot, great for hunting, and for defense, I'm hoping no one wants to get shot, even with a .22. I apologize for not having a photo.

JK- the Vaquero.... Always goes BANG

Well, the Kimber has never had a jam or misfire in over 15,000 rounds, but I do replace springs as recommended. But the Vaquero will probably be my choice. I`ve used it with .38 full wadcutters for squirrel and rabbits, and full power 158 grain .357`s for coyote.

Hard choice, but I guess the Vaquero wins.

Kimber .45

All of those guns are quality choices, but for me I'd have to go with my Glock 23 40 S&W. Its powerful enough to take a deer in a pinch, small enough to conceal, and big enough that I can shoot it reasonabally well.

If it was just one, I would have to balance practicality and function. I would choose a S&W 629 Mountain Gun. It can be used for concealed carry, hunting, defense, target shooting. Ammunition is not hard to find. It has enough power for most tasks on this continent.

Barring the Encore,I'd have to pick a Colt Anaconda, but given the price of them damn things I'll settle for my 6" SS Ruger GP100.
I like the extra length for a bit more power with hunting loads(180 grns.)
I traded a Security Six and a bit of $$ in for it & couldn't be happier.
The SA trigger pull is as smooth & light as the Colts I've shot (Anaconda & Diamond Back)& I can keep 'em on a paper plate at 25' in DA.

Good pick on the Ruger - simple, rugged, reliable, stainless, but I'd still think about the calibre - a .44 or .45 together with a Kephart.
