Just FYI, the great mother of all sporting good stores to be built in Memphis.

I'm not overly impressed with the knife counter at my Bass Pro. They have a nice selection of Case slipjoints, but other than that its mostly a bunch of clamshell packaged low end knives from Gerber, Buck, Wenger, etc. They do offer a few of the more popular knives from Spyderco/Benchmade/Kershaw like the Delica, Mini grip, and Leek, but at prices that make an internet shopper cringe. You would think being a hunting/fishing superstore they would at least hire someone with moderate knowledge of knives to work the knife counter, but when I tried talking to them I might as well have spoken a foreign language. Cabela's is about the same. The locally owned gun shops near me have much wider selections and more knowledgeable employees.

The one we currently have in Memphis does have a decent knife counter. You aren't going to find any $500 knives here, but that's the case for most sporting goods stores. They have a wide range of Benchmade, Spyderco, Cold Steel, Boker, Kershaw/Zero Tolerance, SOG, RAT, etc. The majority of the guys behind the counter are current or former law enforcement. I guess it depends on location. From what they've told me, the Pyramid location will be about as well stocked as one could get.

If you want a walk in knife store to actually shop at it needs to be an online store with a front.
NGK and Warriors and Wonders (for us northern folk) seem like some of the best options.

You'll pay MSRP + on just about everything in the store and alot of the knives can be found at Walmart or Target or Academy for ALOT less. About the only thing they had at a good price was the Boker Subcom for 29.99 everything else was nuts.

Most of what they have at the current Memphis store is MSRP. I think y'all are comparing everything to internet pricing. Stores are, of course, always going to be more expensive than the internet. Internet companies have far less overhead to deal with, fewer employees, etc.

I'm sure Walmart and Target are well stocked with Spyderco and Benchmade.

Sorry, I thought the building of the country's largest sporting goods store would be of interest to those on here. I guess I was wrong.
