Try something like the $100 and less knives from benchmade, spyderco, and kershaw like

Don't do it.
You really need to just start buying the knives that you like or think are cool. You'll have to grow into your own collector. I only collect knives I will use, although that wasn't always the case. Truly I hated spyderco until I started using them. My favorite brand now.

Here's my advice.
Skip straight to the 500-2000$ customs because you're going to end up there sooner or later. At first you think spending 100$ on a knife is nuts, then before you know it you have a Sebenza and are already thinking of buying an XM18 for 700$.
Trust me, just save you're money for the big stuff! Ask any enthusiast, it's a common trend within here.
