Just got a Strider SnG green lego - need some help

Excellent advice! Thank you all.

I never had a Strider before so I didnt know what was "normal".

Normal for several, but my last one feels like it has a bearing pivot from day one. Once they break in they are as smooth as any other nice knife.

Just an update: it's coming along nicely. Still trying to get it smoother but I see what is meant by working it and using the graphite. It's getting there.

If you haven't tried the sharpie method yet that others have mentioned I highly recommend it. Give it a minute to dry before you open it, it works far better than the pencil in my experience.

Hey Terry, My SNG did/does the same thing... Strider finishes their tangs pretty rough, which means its less likely to slip and disengage, but also real hard on the thumb. I just scribble some graphite onto the tang with a normal pencil every once in a while when it starts getting sticky. Eventually the graphite will be ground in and more permanent and you will have to re apply less often... Also make sure there is no oil/lubricant of any kind on the lockbar or tang, as that will cause the lockbar to over travel and get stuck. Hope this helps!

Isn't graphite a lubercant?

Huh. I tried it just a couple times but didn't let it dry first. I'll give it a shot, thanks!

yeah its not much if any better after two full days opening and closing. Seriously considering returning it. Not what I expected from a high end $400 knife. What a disappointment.

If you don't have the patience to break it in you can get the lock bar carbidized
and that should fix it. Some like having to break in a knife, makes it feel like it's
their own knife where they had to put the time in. Others want a knife that's ready
to go out of the box.

flick it hard 10-20 times. i didn't put lead. and still solid lockup. don't baby that knife. flick it like hell and it will be easy now to open and close.

edit: i tried the graphite with a pencil. its now even smoother.

Smokinape-graphite is a lubricant yes. But for some reason it doesn't overtravel with graphite. Don't know the scientific reason why so I won't bs ya!

So Strider's solution to their lock slipping issues is poorly finished lock surfaces? I am surprised they didn't re-brand rolls of Duct tape with their logo and sell it as tactical lock reinforcement technology.

Anybody knows a ti lock bar doesn't stick because it's "poorly finished" it sticks because the steel and ti are different metals and the tolerances are tight. Many high end customs stick until they are worn in.

You have to consider the source and the fact that all some do here, is try to stir people up.

stop trolling.

Last time anyone said a word about the phonies at strider knives, you had a lengthy mental breakdown and "left" the forum.

I have seen rather uniquely bad lock designs on the striders, which isn't to say other companies haven't had similar problems with poor lock geometry. never seen rough surfaces or blade tangs ground with a sharp curve and lockup only on the inside edge of a lockbar on any other brand. (hopefully they advanced beyond
the ski jump tangs by now.) It was a strider owner who mentioned the rough finish.
if customers bend over backwards to make excuses for flaws, the knives will never improve.

Wow, this sounds pretty bad. Count me as one of those folks who won't accept a knife being that bad right out of the box. I wouldn't accept that from a $100 knife, much less one costing four times that. Crossing Strider off my list, not really much there that can't be found elsewhere. "Strider thumb"? That's actually a thing? Guess it goes to show the lengths people will go to to justify things, I guess.
