Just got my D2 Paramilitary!

Just got it in the mail today. On first glance, I thought I might have missed something, because it's dwarfed by my Militarys. Side by side comparison showed that they're a little under an inch shorter on the blade, and a inch and a half or so shorter on the handle.

On first look, it seemed shorter then I'd like, and after carrying it around for the day, it's the perfect size. It's got everything I love about the military, with a bit better lock, a shorter blade, and some awesome FG G-10 scales. They seem to blend right into whatever I happen to be wearing.

The blade didn't come as sharp as I'm used to from Spyderco, not quite shaving, but close. A little ceramic rub down and it's shaving sharp. I went through some cardboard today to see how it held up, and it is still really sharp. Excellent steel choice for a sprint run.

I'll be posting some pics and a more formal review in the reviews section when I get a chance. Just thought I'd blurb here for now. :D

Josh

I hear what your saying, "its the perfect size" I have a constant battle with which Spydie to carry for the day. The D2 Para, wins the days carry a lot.
If not the Para, then its the Stretch that is the biggest competition for pocket time.

Isn't it great! Mine finally needs a touch up and since I'm carrying it this week I'll see how it does after chuch tonight.

I have an S30V Para-Military that I ordered 2-3 weeks ago, it never sold so I decided to play with it this past week. I'm hooked :D

I've always been a Military and Endura fan, so I was very surprised that I liked it so much. The blade length is shorter than I prefer, but the large handle makes up for that.

Now I'm on the bus waiting for a Military with a compression lock :D

A millie with a compression lock would rock. I think I'm going to have to pick up a Digi camo Para, along with a DLC/G-10 model. Then another S90V millie. :D

I must say though, I'm really looking forwards to a Sprint Run of CF scales on the para.

Great choice of knives Josh. Have the D2 myself for about 6 months and its the only knife that has shared pocket time with my Sm. Sebenza. Good luck with this fine Spyderco. Have put it to the strop and its the sharpest knife I own.

I just bought one online about 20 minutes ago. I can't wait til it gets here. I am really looking forward to this knife.

I had to rebevel mine slightly, I couldn't return it to factory sharp at first. Now that I steppened the edge a little it's sharper then out of the box! I found Spyderco's CPM D2 easy to work with, actually easier then my Queen tool steel D2.

Just got mine yesterday, the S30V version with black g10. Love it. I was thinking about the d2 but I already have a Rookie and UKPK in foliage green. Needed a black g10. That S30V is scary sharp. Either one you can't go wrong with.

I have been a Spyderco fan for many years and its virtually the only folder brand I carry. However, how did you guys ever get used to that compression lock on the Paramilitary? I like to be able to open and close my knives with one hand, which is easy with a frame or liner lock. It took all my might just to compress that little flange on the para I had. Anyway I wound up returning it and my EDC lately has been my Sage. Wish I could get used to that darn lock because I do love that knife.

Pinch with middle finger and push with forefinger, or pinch and drop with gravity. I was doing the later the other night and stupid me thinking it was closed and not looking stabbed myself in the leg! :eek:Ouch!

I believe I heard rumors that those would be coming out soon.....;)

God I hope not. :( It'd ruin the entire image for me. I'm not sure (with the curved spine and all) you could even make it a feasible tip-up carry. (Then again, I don't carry tip up.)

Hold the knife, edge down, like you're going to cut something. Now move your thumb off the thumb ramp and onto the scale opposite the compression tab (it's the only bit of scale there, the other side has been removed). Now move your finger from the finger choil on the bottom, remove fingers from the path of the knife, squeeze the lock, and swing the knife shut. :D

It could have been the 4 way clip carry that I heard about, now I have to look it up

That's exactly how I close mine

I like how you can pinch the compression tab when you open it. Flip open, flip shut, flip open, flip shut on finger, swear loudly, super glue, flip open, flip shut. :)
