Just got my GEC knife

It's your knife. Use it if you want or don't. If you continue to buy traditionals, you will more than likely have more than you can really use. I understand not really wanting to use the first one.

I completely agree. I have been collecting knives for years and I STILL, to this very day, convince myself that every new purchase is going to be my new EDC, lol. The reality is I have more than I could ever wear out in this lifetime, and I have learned to be ok with that. :)

I enjoy owning them, maintaining them and using them. I rotate a lot, usually carrying both a modern and traditional. Knives are a lot of fun aren't they?

What were we talking about again?

Oh yeah! I've found that as long as you collect what you like, you'll usually wind up satisfied.

indeed, just ebayed a queen coke bottle, and my case one blade trapper shall be arriving soon

I just ordered a maroon handled Big Jack so I would have a user version. I thought I would EDC a 54 stag but I find I just don't. It makes me happier to keep it nice and take it to church on Sundays.

im still struggling with the idea of carrying/using my expensive traditionals. i know there are those who would scoff that i think 115 is expensive for a traditional, but to me thats a lot. been carrying my boker slimline with the curved bent tip that i fixed. almost put a case slimline into rotations actually. but like they say, eventually if you keep buying knives, they are just gonna sit there and then theyll be no good. just bought another one of 2dead's HMTs actually. sucker for single blade trappers, well anything with double bolsters and a big clip point blade i suppose

Personally, I find Photobucket easier. But for imgur, do this: Right click that page. select "view page info" at the top, click the icon for "media" select the one marked "image" and copy it. Paste it into your post, wrap it in BBS code like this:
and voila...

John, Its a 2008 CSC HMT with Buffalo Horn covers and a 14-4 CrMo for the steel. The steel is Latrobe's version of 154CM.

Jack, there's a little card in the box that came with the knife that has the info on it too.

Thanks, Trand! Looks like Jack got a good selection of steels in that one group - D2, 14-4 CrMo, and 1095.

=D too busy fondling knife! i think i noticed it the second time i took it outta the box tho! thanks again!

Yep, a vast majority don't. Even some serialized knives don't. Why did you think they all had birth certificates?

all those pictures here from people who bought GECs gave me the impression that they had em. That in videos from ApostleP on the youtube. someone lent him a bunch of traditionals to do a series. Maybe its the older ones i guess

IIRC, all the serialized ones that I have, have a COA. Its either a card in the tube or on the tube itself. Usually when its on the tube there's a little more info. I usually prefer to get non-serialized versions and those do not have COAs of any kind.

I think the traditional knife urge has bite ya! You have some great looking knives and great choices. I suspect you look at each of those and ask yourself if you want to use them unless they have already been used? I just ordered one of AG Russell's chinese regular priced slipjoints. Now this is one I'll use. ;) First time to order one of his imports and I'm optimistic that its a pretty good knife.

Added: It took me a while to talk myself into paying for a GEC slipjoint. I ran into the owners at a manufacturer's day thing at the knife store in Sevierville TN back around 2010. I looked at their stuff and kinda felt it was expensive. My reference point were Case slippies. My first plunge was a #73 which was branded "Bradford Cutlery" made for them by GEC. I could barely open that knife; nail breaker was an understatement. Then I bought a #56 (Dogleg Jack). I liked the quality and gradually became accepting of the pricing. More GEC knives followed. But I have not gone hogwild buying them... a couple a year. You see I wanted to change my edc to a GEC slipjoint and finding what worked for me was the problem. Ultimately, I settled on the #42 Missouri Trapper (2-blade) as my favorite. For many, it is just too heavy a knife.
