  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Just got my gransfors bruks small forest axe!

I used my axe again tonight - and man - it is GREAT. I am doing some great splitting of some small rounds tonight and I have never had as much success splitting rounds as I am with this axe. It is just a joy to use.

Did you guys happen to find yours at the Halifax airport in Nova Scotia, about 3 years ago? :(

Glad you guys both like the new axes. I feel the same way when I use mine, it feels perfect.

This characteristic is what is so hard to quantify for those that think GB's are way overpriced.

I just ordered a Small Forest Axe from Wisementrading.com for $104.95 with free shipping. They matched RedRockStore.com price. Red Rock has a new shipment arriving within the next two weeks or so.

Mine has the same size gap. Nothing to worry about, I've used it extensively with no issues. I believe it is part of the forging process.

I used my SFA for a couple of days now and I can tell you, this thing bites DEEP!
here are some pictures.

Ahhh. The joy of seeing somebody buy something QUALITY that is SHARP out of the box and that you don't have to spend hours dicking around with to get it to work right:thumbup:

another happy day for me.
used my SFA to make a new handle for an old axe head I found in my garden.
pics to come.
hey talfuchre, show us some pictures of yours too.

Hector, I am going to use mine tomorrow and plan on building a lean-to with the kids. Mine is made by "KS", like yours. The quality is incredible.

Also, my wood is much darker than yours. Or, does your picture make your wood look light colored?

The Axe Book contains chapters:

Parts of an Axe
Which Axe to choose
Limbing a Log
Firewood
To Dry and Store Wood
To Make a Fire
Axe Throwing
Axe Care

Thanks. I was looking at a GB axe online and it did not indicate that it came with the book. May not be much of a book, but as an axe newby I think I'd still want to get one when I buy a GB.

yeah, the axe book is actually interesting.
some nice info there.
and razcob, the wood on mine is not dark at all.
the side with the name on is a bit darker but still very light colored.
make sure you take pics of your lean to, i think your kids will love the experience.

Here is a few pics of mine that I've had nearly a year now. I couldn't be happier with an axe!

Enough fatwood in this stump for a lifetime of fires.

My first backpacking trip with the Axe last Feb. It helped me make quick work of this large oak limb that was struck by lightning and fell.

hey guys, I used my GB again today, and have some blisters in my hands to prove it.
I really need to get some good gloves.
after I used it, I realized that it had rust on some spots, so I decided to try to polish it. as best as I can.
here's what I started with.

and here's the result after 40 minutes of sanding.

I know it will take a lot of elbow grease to get it completely polished, but I think the smoothness will make it a better tool (for that same reason I sand the bottom and side of my wood planes all the way to mirror polished. it glides much more effortlessly on the wood. and it looks good too!

I will keep sanding the head a little each time I use it, and one day I'll get there.

hector81 - I like the polish job! Probably a good move if you live in a fairly wet place. I think the Wetterlings axes are made of the same, or a similar carbon steel as the GB's.

Powernoodle, the book comes with the axe (it's tied on to the axe), it also contains the warranty card that you have to fill out and send to GB, in case you ever need warranty work or replacement.
