So, I've wanted a PM2 in Satin/Camo for months and I finally came across one the other day. Having never held on before, I was unsure of what to expect once it came in. My trip to the mailbox yesterday proved fruitful, and I excitedly opened the package with my SAK. Once in my hands I realized how big the knife really was, or how small my hands were compared to the reviews I had seen. The knife is great, it functions well, is sharp as heck  but it just hasn't lived up to what I expected it to be.

Im still unsure of what I will do whether keep it or trade/sell it, but I just want to share my thoughts. If you were in my situation, what would you consider trading it for? Ive handled BM grips both full size and mini, and liked them, but the handles felt sorta chintzy for the price. I do like the axis lock alot, and feel that its more comfortable than the PM2's compression lock.

So that's kinda where I'm at; what would you recommend that has comfortalbe one handed opening, and has a bit less bulk in the pocket?

The slimmest profile knife I own in the pocket is the Spyderco Endura or Buck Vantage. The lightweight Spyderco Native is also a gem in the pocket, but has a very small grip to it.

Say it aint so! The perfect para2 isnt for you!?? Blasphemy!!

LOL
They do list measurements online ya know ;) Plenty of comparison pics etc etc
I for one, do not like the compression lock. The pinch flick closing is way better feeling with the Axis.
Generally guessing at what you want out of the knife....buy a BM 940 and thank me later.

Edit: Whats wrong with the SAK? Ever looked at the Alox saks? Thats a whole new disease
Put the PM2 on ebay, it should sell for about $60,000

I know how you feel about the PM2... I don't really consider myself to have small hands but I find it a bit oversized. Fell out of love with it pretty fast.

I really like the mini grip, I think it's a bargain and it's what I would suggest if you hadn't said you thought it felt cheap.

Maybe a Native 5?

I second the Benchmade 940. It sounds like what you are looking for. Good Luck! Kevin :D

Less bulk with length, width, or thickness?

Most Spydercos are wide because of the hole in the blade - if you're wanting one that isn't as wide, you probably need to look at Spydercos (or other brands) that don't have a hump on the back. The Native series is a good one from Spyderco (the Native 5 is really nice and around the same prices as that PM2). If it's thickness that bothers you, then an FRN model will be a touch thinner, but not by a whole lot - the PM2 is actually pretty thin.

If it's length, then there are a ton of shorter folders out there.

Check out a Spyderco Sage or if you do not need a locking blade the UKPK is awesome. If the Para2 is just a little too big look at the original Para it is a bit smaller. Good luck on your quest for the perfect knife.

I did check out the specs before purchasing, but I guess it just never really played out in my head how big it would be.

I do have a FFG Endura and like it alot, but am looking for something thats easier to open/close with one hand.

My main complaint with the PM2 is the height of the knife if you laid it on its spine on a table. While very ergonomic, it just takes up too much space in the pocket.

Im not anti- griptilian, just commented that they felt cheap. Did they ever make a version that used G-10? How about the BM 707?

Another thing about the PM2 is Im just a little apprehensive of even using it just cause I know how rare they are these days and that I could sell it pretty easily.

I just started carrying the SAK and LOVE it! I plan on carrying a larger knife in conjunction with a SAK. Ive done nothing but research different SAK's these last few days it seems like. lol.

Direct comparison of the 707 and para2 here

The 707 is a sweet blade. Way out-carries the PM2 (flame suit on)

Checkout smartknives.com if you havent yet, pretty neat. Alox SAK's are worth every penny. (well most SAK's anyway)

Damn those tiny hands!!!

Dont feel bad man I had the same problem. I got my first Para2 and it was broken out of the box and had to go back. Second wasn't very sharp and I had to work at it. It was a let down and after all the hype I was just over it. I wanted to love it, but couldn't. Sell it and get something else. If your looking for a Spyderco the native 5 would be a good choice IMO.

For the love of god don't try the military then. :D I personally like the PM2 but don't like the lock so I no longer carry mine either. Nothing wrong with just carrying a SAK. I do. Haven't come close to finding something better for day to day stuff.

The Sages, the Caly 3.5, and the Native 5 all come to mind if you want to stick with Spydercos that are a bit smaller feeling. All of them will hold their own with the PM2 for slicing and be a bit less of a package in the pocket. If you want to branch out some, you might try a BM 520 or 525, or their Bone Collectors. The 520/525 series is really nice for slim, easy to carry AXIS folders and the small Bone Collector is a nice tough package with G10 instead of Noryl.
