Just got my Paramilitary 2 and I'm a bit disapointed.....

I did check out the specs before purchasing, but I guess it just never really played out in my head how big it would be.

I do have a FFG Endura and like it alot, but am looking for something thats easier to open/close with one hand.

My main complaint with the PM2 is the height of the knife if you laid it on its spine on a table. While very ergonomic, it just takes up too much space in the pocket.

Im not anti- griptilian, just commented that they felt cheap. Did they ever make a version that used G-10? How about the BM 707?

Another thing about the PM2 is Im just a little apprehensive of even using it just cause I know how rare they are these days and that I could sell it pretty easily.
I use the crap out of mine. They'll make more, also that's what a knife is for, to be used. You pay the extra for tougher materials, better locks etc. The handle is long to facilitate various grips, also to accommodate gloved hands as well. I find that the thin profile disappears in my pocket and more often than not I need that slightly larger blade to get a job done. Sounds like you should stick to smaller knives from what I'm reading. Larger folders just aren't some people's thing.

I would sell it. Just because everyone else has one, doesn't mean it's right for you. I bought it twice trying to like it. I sold both. It is too big. The compression lock isn't the best thing since sliced bread. It is a Spyderco though, so it's not all bad. :D

I would NOT suggest the Native 5. If you like fast deployment, slip joints and back locks suck. The Native 5 is perfect in every other way though.

Maybe a BM Mini Bone Collector? It's reasonable in size, has strong D2 steel, isn't plastic-y feeling.

For Spyderco, I second something from the Sage line, though they are a little plain. They have a good size and the 3 (i think it's the 3) has an "axis-like" lock.

Also for a smaller, EDC blade the Spyderco Cat is pretty nice. Relatively affordable, decent steel, fast deployment, G10.

Good luck on your hunt. I had to have my perfect knife custom built.

I also have small hands but for me it is a blessing. I have learned God gave me small hands so my weiner would look bigger when I pee.

Say it aint so! The perfect para2 isnt for you!?? Blasphemy!!

LOL
They do list measurements online ya know ;) Plenty of comparison pics etc etc
I for one, do not like the compression lock. The pinch flick closing is way better feeling with the Axis.
Generally guessing at what you want out of the knife....buy a BM 940 and thank me later.

Edit: Whats wrong with the SAK? Ever looked at the Alox saks? Thats a whole new disease
Put the PM2 on ebay, it should sell for about $60,000

I think I'll put mine up, I could use the $60,000 :p
It's a nice knife, nice feel in my hand, but I too don't think it's all that and I don't care for the compression lock.
I purchased it last year after a four month back-order/waiting period, it arrived with a weird grind.
I find many buyers seem to purchase this knife based on its mystique and unavailability status, luckily I only paid $109.00 for it.

dropped my Pm2 on my hardwood floor and the tip broke off..sold it on ebay and got more for it with a broken tip than what I paid for it brand new a year ago

Spyderco Native 5 is an excellent knife. Very smooth lockback that is also very solid

Interesting situation... less bulk than the PM2? Benchmade 940/943 comes to mind. It's a much more narrow blade... but still pretty long... and the pocketability is hard to beat. (I have a PM2 and a 943... love 'em both.)

A Spyderco Stretch 2 would be similar to the PM2 but even more narrow in the pocket... but that's a step down in materials, if you ask me.

Side note: I was slightly underwhelmed when I first got my PM2. I'd never handled one until buying it... and the reviews make it sound like it walks on water. I gave it time, and am glad I did. The lock/opening smoothed out and speed up, to where it feels almost as fast as my 943. It's now a true favorite. If the handle's just too big for you, though, I'd give up soon and move on.

The Para 2 locks into my hand perfect if not using the choil. You must have smaller hands if it feels way too big. Which makes me wonder about the mention of a full size grip. It is just as big, plus quite a bit thicker. Seems to take up a lot more pocket space. The mini grip is closer to a 3 finger grip for me, so I would think would be a much better candidate. The 707 is a bit more 'gentlemanly' than the mini grip if you don't mind aluminum handles (which I can't stand).

The mini bone collector is nice too and reasonably priced. I really like it but it is also a bit thicker than most other knives that are similar in length. It is also available in walnut if you like a more traditional look.

I have to throw out my all time favorite knife, the Benchmade Rift. It is a great knife but similar in size to the Para and probably won't work well for you. I also get the impression it doesn't fit well in smaller hands but feel it deserves to be mentioned.

Ah - if it's blade-height (and you're looking for something a little smaller), then check out the Native 5. BTW, you could completely beat the hell out of a PM2 and still sell it for $100 just about anywhere.

I'm a Para guy, but if it's too big take a look at a mini-Ritter. You'll get the same steel, a proven lock and a great EDC. It's also a knife that is as good as gold for trade bait should it not float your boat.

Well if you decide to trade it look me up I have a post on the exchange .

I know it is blasphemy but I think the PM2 is but somewhat overhyped. I like the quality, weight, size, blade shape and steel. But the thing that keeps it out of my pocket everyday is the wide profile when it is closed. Carrying tip up helps save space, but I still end up carrying other knives more often. A lot of Spyderco knives have the girth problem due to the spydie hole. I'm still searching for a narrow Spyderco. Maybe the Southard would get into my pocket everyday. But I'd rather flip with my thumb. Dang, what a dilemma!!!!!! P.S. I'm still keeping my PM2.

This is what happened to me as well. But I had a bad experience with it and the hype killed it.
