Just got my Paramilitary 2 and I'm a bit disapointed.....

The Para 2 locks into my hand perfect if not using the choil. You must have smaller hands if it feels way too big. Which makes me wonder about the mention of a full size grip. It is just as big, plus quite a bit thicker. Seems to take up a lot more pocket space. The mini grip is closer to a 3 finger grip for me, so I would think would be a much better candidate. The 707 is a bit more 'gentlemanly' than the mini grip if you don't mind aluminum handles (which I can't stand).

The mini bone collector is nice too and reasonably priced. I really like it but it is also a bit thicker than most other knives that are similar in length. It is also available in walnut if you like a more traditional look.

I have to throw out my all time favorite knife, the Benchmade Rift. It is a great knife but similar in size to the Para and probably won't work well for you. I also get the impression it doesn't fit well in smaller hands but feel it deserves to be mentioned.

I've owned sooo many nice knives. Some that cost silly money and the Rift is STILL my all-time favorite knife design. I just abso-freaking-lutly love the knife.

As for size, come on guys, haven't you ever looked at the stats, the pics, the vids etc... then been surprised when you got the knife in hand? I know it's happened to me. Happened with the pm2 actually, but I liked the handle. I just didn't like the blade to handle ratio, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't own one.

I agree, stay away from the Native. Great knives, with outstanding ergos, but they suck to open and close. Sorry but it's true.

I can't even recommend a knife though because there are so many great ones that fit your wide open criteria that you could just open any catalog and find a knife on any given page. Okay maybe that's exaggerating, but tell me more about what you want. Uses, blade shape, price (pm2 price I guess? around $120?), blade steel etc... ;)

Im still unsure of what I will do whether keep it or trade/sell it, but I just want to share my thoughts. If you were in my situation, what would you consider trading it for? Ive handled BM grips both full size and mini, and liked them, but the handles felt sorta chintzy for the price. I do like the axis lock alot, and feel that its more comfortable than the PM2's compression lock.

I'd get gold paid membership first thing so talking about value, or negotiating wouldn't get me in trouble for sort of. almost, kinda skirting the rules about that kind of thing for non paid members. After that? I'd probably keep the P2. :)

The hype probably caused that.
All Spydies are wide... so I'm used to it.
The slim profile and low weight makes up for the extra width I think.

I'd trade my Sage 1 for it :)

I agree. I've been seeing a lot of trade offers lately in threads outside the exchange and, to be honest, It's annoying.

The Para 2 is a great knife but IMO kind of overhyped. For $100 sure it's a good knife. For some of the prices they've been going for plus the outrageous cost of sprint runs, there are better value's out there that use premium materials like titanium, carbon fiber, etc.

I think he's meaning sizewise so he doesn't trade for another bulky or oversized folder...not skirting the rules.

I really like the para 2. I don't own one anymore but it is a great knife. Funny thing is the blade is almost too small for me:) Anyway. I thought it was a great value at $110.00 ish. However, it is no longer a good value at some of the prices they are selling at nowadays. I wouldn't spend any more than $125 for a regular production pm2 before I start feeling like I overpaid. IMHO of course.

I know how you feel about the PM2... I don't really consider myself to have small hands but I find it a bit oversized. Fell out of love with it pretty fast.

I really like the mini grip, I think it's a bargain and it's what I would suggest if you hadn't said you thought it felt cheap.

Maybe a Native 5?

Wow, it was the complete opposite for me. I always carried a PM2 and love it, but maybe my hands are a little bigger, I dunno. ..but I got a mini grip in the mail last week (in M4 steel), and through to my self, what am I going to do with this tiny little thing. the handle doesn't even fit in my hand. The place for this thing is the bottom of my wife's purse. In my opinion a man needs a man size knive, I'll never buy another mini anything ever again.

I bet if you keep the PM2, it will grow on you and become your favorite knive ever. Unless your hands are just teeny tiny. in that case, ...you know what they say about guys with small hands? .....put a small knive in it (LOL). trade it for a delica or a min-grip.

its not true at all, its not a big deal to open the Native 5, its a great knife. I can easily open and close it with one hand. if you are drawn to it, get one. you'll love it.

Personalize it, you may love it more.
(Not my work, but I love red, so it works)

I personallized mine too, Made some scales out of wood.
I would love to know how you got your camo scales red light that, I have a pair of camo scales i never use, I hatem but would use em if I could do something like that to em.

Rit dye most likely. You can dye G10 and FRN darker with the dye. Do a search and there is a ton of info on it.

I don't mind big knife handles. As long as they contain big knife blades! It was kind of shocking to see the 707 has almost as much blade in a much smaller package. I agree with the video guys assessment. I want as close to 1:1 ratio of blade to handle as possible. I love my spydies but the ratio is all kinds of off in the PM2. If I wanted a big gripping area for different grips I want a big blade to go with it (currently edcing a ZT0560, big handle big blade). If the mini grip is too small the full size grip, especially the Ritter, is the best of both worlds. Great steel, great blade shape, easily hangs with any similar knife for chores and slicing ability.

I don't own a 707 btw. I have a couple 705's which I don't carry and a couple of Blackwater Gear 705 variants which I do carry. Back when Blackwater got into trouble I got them for cheap, like 60 bucks. All G10 (better than AL for me), 154CM, slight recurve. In fact, with the recurve they look exactly like a miniature 710 (classic good knife) but it has the blackwater bear claw which I think is a pretty cool corporate logo. Awesome.

I'll be honest, I have been playing with it a bit these last few days at work and have started to like it. With a bit of adjustment on the pivot I can fire that sucker open the blink of an eye, and close it pretty handily, too. Haven't cut much with it though other than shaving hairs from my arm; this sucker gives hair poppin sharp a whole new meaning!

Theres a link to how he dyed his handles red. I may end up shaping my handles a bit and dying them blue.

I am really impressed with your wooden handles, however. Do you have more pictures? Maybe some insight on how you made them?

I had the exact same problem. I bought a PM 2 and when it got here, I could not believe how big it really was.

Long story short, I bought a BM 610 Rukus, Cold Steel Rajah 2, and I found a REKAT Sifu for sale.

After carrying those three for a couple months, I went back to my PM2, and man that sucker looked and felt tiny in my hand. :)

Just kidding, however I really like the looks of the 707.
The 940 also seems like it might fit your needs too. (Just to echo the above knowledgeable posters.)

On the note about hands being too small for the PM2, I find my hands too chunky for the PM2. Would a Military be a better option?

I had the opposite reaction...the para 2 felt very small in hand to me. I don't have giant mitts or anything but I just prefer larger folders. The PM2 felt dainty to me but it is and awesome blade design, just not what I prefer.
