Just went to the doc and had to get 5 stitches. First time ever. I was wrapping a bk14 handle with paracord and the knife came out of the sheath and ran across my middle finger. Cut me real good :(
How many of you guys have had to get stitches from a knife related injury? Please share your story.
Im sorry mods I didn't know where to post this topic please move if this isn't the correct place.

I should have gotten stitches when i cut my hand with a machete. But I was home alone, couldnt drive and didnt fell like calling for help so I wrapped it real tight in gauze and tape and held it above my head for hours till it stopped bleeding. Judging from the scar thats still there after years, I was real lucky to have just missed a tendon for my pointer finger. People even believe the lie I tell them that I fell on a piece of bamboo.

Sorry about that.

Pretty sure every knife knut gets cut. And many get stitches.

For me, the last time happened several years ago. Removing a fine Dan Winkler period piece from a leather sheath, stumbling over my own two feet, and that old unconscious grab for the knife. Well, the knife fell anyway ... leaving a lovely, bone-deep cut on the outside of my right hand.

But, a few stitches later, I was just fine.

For me, it's the unconscious reactions that are usually the problem.

i was cutting a greenbeen with a kitchen knife and it slipped 7 stitches on my left index finger

Just about every time I work on a knife (not sharpening), I put 2 layers of electrical tape to cover the edge and tip. I have learned that lesson in the past ;).

Sharpening my superfly, i became a little annoyed at the toothy edge and started aggressively slicing through some old newspapers. got a little close to my right hand middle finger and made a nice diagonal cut from the middle of my finger nail to the tip, wrapped in gauze, passed out. woke up the next morning drank lots of water and rebandaged it after the scab had solidified (the worst part :( )

I worked as a chef for many years and only got cut a couple of times, the worst cut was actually when I sliced a nice sized chunk off the back of my left index finger. I had to have a skin graft taken from my inner arm to patch it up, it was interesting to watch though.

Not another one of these.. you guys make me woozie.
My last cut was in the kitchen... which i have to hide because i work so hard to convince my wife that sharp knives are safer than dull knives...

Be safe.

The only time I can remember getting sutures for a knife wound was about six years ago. I was attempting to cut a rubber golf grip off of a club with a utility knife with a hook blade. It was only one club and I was in a hurry and got careless. I ended up dragging the hook through the ball of my left thumb. The cut was about 1&1/2" long and very deep. The cutting edge of a hook blade is only about 1/2" or so. The cut was very clean. About 4 stiches and I have a barely visible scar. My own fault. Since I started collecting some knives about 4 years ago I've only had a few small nicks and cuts. Knock on wood.

i have only had about three big cuts in my life (lots of small ones).

fist one was not even my fault but my sisters. i was about three years old, my sister was washing dishes and i grabbed a knife by the blade out of the dish drainer and my sister, without thinking quickly pulled the knife out of my hand, severely cutting my middle finger, had to get stitches for that one.

second was from my condor inca knife. i was out in my woods and went to chop a small sapling, there were rocks all over the base of the tree and i didnt want to chip the blade on them, so i cut it at an upwards angle, went right through the tree and into my shoulder, i didnt know i had cut myself until i lifted my sleeve, it left a gash about half an inch and about a quarter inch wide. still have the scar.

third one is kind of embarrassing, i got my esee 4 out and wasnt holding it tightly and lost my grip, it slid about a third of an inch into my middle finger and instantly started pouring blood. its still healing up.

comes with the trade i guess, being stupid helps too:o

buddy and i got matching Lone Wolf Paul Defenders. Mine came tight as a bank vault, he complained about lateral play. well he said he fixed it by tightening the lock, which is on the pivot. i was under the impression it was pressed on... so i set about loosening it and what do you know. so i go to tighten it back up, with the blade open no less and this happened:

man, thats harsh!

I think the bill would hurt way worse than the cut

never hurt even a little... just would NOT stop bleeding. 2 and a half hours of cold compression and everything else i could think of and no beans. so to the e r i went with no insurance.

[sigh] and to think i traded that bastard for a gayle bradley that i sold for less than $100

definitely should have gotten some jim or jack and a needle instead

I don't know about way worse but it does hurt haha :/. Slipped while cutting with my Izula about 6 months ago and got cut straight to the bone on my right ring finger. $738 dollars later and 5 stitches haha its a hazard of the hobby

I use two layers of duct tape, myself.

The only knife cut I've ever has sutured was from a Stanley 10-049 pocket knife. Whittling at two A.M., slipped and cut through the meat just below my left little finger. Nicked a small vein and couldn't get it to stop bleeding, ended up with 9 stitches in a 1" cut. How long ago? I'll give you a hint, the E.R. bill totalled right at $200 (somewhere back in the mid-80s).

I usually use painters tape. Leaves less residue then other types of tape.

Never had a major cut, outdoors or at work (bar) where I cut fruits for garnishes all the time. But a few days ago, I was cleaning and oiling my new bk9 after returning from a trip to the mountain when I moved my thumb in the wrong angle and it bit me. I would say about 2mm deep cut. The impressive thing is that the blade was so sharp, that it didn't bleed at all. The cut was so clean and precise that there was no opening in the skin for blood to come out. It healed amazingly quickly too.
