Just Got the Sage 1 (lemon?) - its not me its you!

ha-hah,
doubt potential customers would appreciate the Teflon approach.

You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.
Everyone has other expectations and preferences, and the Sage obviously does not meet yours, but please show me another knife with 91% 5-Star ratings on Amazon.
All fools and victims of Spyderco marketing.
...I know what comes now: a million flies...

i already asked, have i got a lemon? but people wont hear me..
and i asked because i have 13 other knifes NONE OF THEM have such sharp edges.. & so bad action..
i worked & fixed that issue, still it's not my smoothest knife but now its fine. (CRKT Ripple & BM Adamas)
none of my knifes i needed to disassemble & take sandpaper to, not from 17$ and not 180$ knife..

there's only 2 options
1. i got a lemon.
2. that is what the factory produce.

its NOT my first knife, so experience is not a factor.
but NO one here would indulge that possibility that what i'm saying is truth'
and that because of 2 more options, none of which are positive..

some comments here are pathetic.
(not yours)

What if we can hear the grittiness on our sage though? Any recommendations?

BTW I love Spyderco and also my Sage, I just want to make it more smooth. I'm not trolling.

No you didn't get a lemon Panta. Sometimes a knife will come with a bit of grit from the manufacturing process. They are made in dirty factories so this is unavoidable once in a while (from ALL major companies in the price range).
You clean it, lube it, and move on. It will smooth out more with use, as all knives do.

The crisp edges have been explained, and are a sign of quality. If you don't like them they can be tamed easily with some high grit sandpaper. The opposite would be much more difficult...

This is buyer's remorse, plain and simple.

There is nothing wrong with that Sage.

I think even that is too charitable, but it's nice to give people the benefit of the doubt. I think he bought the knife looking for reasons to criticize and whine, and act like the knife had been shoved down his throat when he actively went searching for it, despite obviously disliking the brand for whatever reason.

As far as the OP: I don't believe it's a 'lemon'. I think the 'problems' brought up are insignificant.

I've never owned a Sage, but the Caly 3.5 w/CF & ZDP-189 had the same grittiness and sharp corners -- it, however, came from the Japanese factory. Taiwanese models like the Southard and Slysz Bowie are the opposite: very smooth, in terms of both action and finish. I've heard other people mention that the Caly models arrived with the same small amounts of oily grit, but not the Sage. I wasn't crazy about the grit, but it cleaned up very easily without disassembly, and the action was good for a lock-back. The sharp edges aren't something that bother me much, but if a person doesn't like them, fine -- smooth them out, sell the knife... or start a whiny thread about it.

It'd be great if everyone was happy with every knife they purchase, but that's not going to happen. That said, many Spyderco owners not only like their first Spyderco, they like it enough to almost immediately buy another. And another. Then another 120 (not me, but some on BF have incredible Spyderco collections). I've had issues with a couple brands and models, but I don't haunt their public forums or sub-forums demanding answers from fans... for one thing, the fans didn't make the knife. Mostly though, it's because that comes off as pointless provocation, another argumentative half-troll move that annoys some and bores the rest.

The legal definition of a "lemon" is a product that continues to perform poorly after repeated attempts by factory authorized dealer to correct the problem. By that standard, your Sage is not a lemon, as you never returned it to Spyderco, even once.

The consensus on this forum is that you did not receive a lemon. You may have received a knife that was somewhat gritty, but aside from that, the only problem is the difference between your definition of a properly finished knife, and most of the rest of ours.

So yes, that's what the factory produces, an excellently finished knife. A lot of people think Spyderco's Taichung maker turns out knives with excellent fit and finish, some rank them as consistently achieving the best fit and finish of any Spyderco maker. You, most obviously, do not share that view. You are entitled to your opinion, but so are folks who think the world is flat.

Panta,

It is possible you got a lemon, and I'm sure many have heard you. The problem is that it is very hard to diagnose online. I haven't seen it suggested yet, but have you tried contacting Spyderco? They have always been very helpful and friendly with problems in the past. You can contact them and if needed, send the knife in to them to be looked at.

FWIW, I have a domino from Taiwan, and the hole edges are much sharper than my Japan/USA knives. I think this is just the exactness of the Taiwan production process and although it is a little sharper than I like, I think it will wear a little with use.

my sage is one of the smoothest (on bronze washers) "knifes" i've ever owned.

that said it's certainly possible that yours is a little gritty, but nothing more.

lemon? i think not..

call me crazy but i've always enjoyed the process of breaking in knives.

damn, i just totally fed the troll

:foot:how long is this going to continue? What a train wreck.

OP, contact Spyderco, done.

So, when does someone become an official troll?

Kind of on topic, I randomly got a text and notification from the big river site earlier that my "order containing Spyderco Sage 2 has shipped and will arrive Thursday"... But I didn't order a Sage 2... Or any knife. I had looked at the Sage prices, due to this thread, earlier and all I can think of is that while rolling around in bed I accidentally hit the "Buy With One Click" feature. Super weird, and I'm gonna look into it further tomorrow.

thank you, i was thinking posting here i would get an official (direct)
representative of Spyderco, that's why i open the post here..
as of sending the knife back, i'm outside the US (Israel) so that's option is the last one.

If you wanted a response from Spyderco, did you call or email them first? I'm guessing not.

Haha I guess I'm a wolf

Panta are you trolling?

Need you ask?

It's obvious. Remember, when wrestling a hog, you often come to realize the hog is enjoying it.

Panta, It's not a lemon. If it was, you'd have returned the immediately to the seller, even if you live in Israel.

I have purchased many knives from Spyderco and other makers that did not meet my expectations. I simply do not like certain "features" of Spyderco backlock knives, for instance. But in every instance I know I have multiple options...

(A) Is the knife truly defective? If so, I send it back to the seller.
(B) Am I being picky? If so, I send it to the manufacturer for fine-tuning.
(C) Is it not about the knife, but I am not going to be happy, period? If so, I sell it and get my money back.

Note there is no "whine about it on a forum for pages and pages" option. I just don't see how that is going to fix your issue.

Love my Sage1,Sage2 and Slysz Bowie. I've said it once and I'll say it again. For over all F&F and bang for the buck anyone would be hard pressed to find better EDC folders than these three Spyderco models. Great knives from a great company!!!!

You could have just sprayed the pivot with WD40 and blown the excess out with an air compressor. Taking it apart was unnecessary.

Tooling around the net I found this: it is a review for the top 10 folding knives. The delica is listed among them, but what I wanted to point out is that the OP (if this is the same guy, pretty sure it might be) hasn't ever liked Spyderco enough to say anything good about them.

I'm not trying to start up controversy here, just thought it was interesting and relevant. Check out the comment section here

Yeah, this is his second thread like this one here.

I'm not sure why, but when I read Panta's threads, this comes to mind:
