Just Got the Sage 1 (lemon?) - its not me its you!

I've never had a spyderco that wasn't smooth as butter but I only buy the best made in here on home turf. Sal just yells out over the guys " bevel that hole! Nobody wants cutsies, geez! "

Disassembly voids the warranty btw.
Is that really the case? The wording says "Spyderco’s warranty does not cover damage caused by abuse, misuse, loss, improper handling, alterations, accident, neglect, disassembly, or improper sharpening."

Does the knife screw together? If so and if flushing out the mechanism doesn't clear issue, I'd have it apart to see exactly where this roughness was coming from. Alternatively get it swapped by the dealer if return to Spyderco is impractical.

You'd be suprised how many people booger up their knives by partial or full diassembly.

I believe you. However since I wrote my post above I've seen statements by Spyderco representatives explicitly stating that disassembly voids the warranty. Maybe I was misunderstanding the wording I quoted, or maybe it could (should) be worded differently on the paperwork.

I don't think this changes matters for the OP though. If can't return to either the dealer or to Spyderco, I can't see what he has to lose by taking it apart.

This old saying comes to mind, "some people see lemons others see lemonade". I have a Sage 1 and imho and couldn't be more impressed with form and function of this knife.

I can see where your confusion came from, but the "damaged caused by" applies specifically to abuse. It would be written slightly differently if all of the other breaches of warranty were meant to be included under "damage caused by".

"Spyderco’s warranty does not cover damage caused by; abuse, misuse, loss, improper handling, alterations, accident, neglect, disassembly, or improper sharpening."

But as it is written, you do not need to damage your knife during disassembly to void your warranty, simply taking the knife apart is enough.

As for the OP, if there is literally no alternative, his only solution would be to attempt to fix the problem himself. But given his history of threads, a voided warranty is just one more thing he will hate about Spyderco.
