Just got this note from one of our distributors

The MAP pricing has only been placed on some of the most popular models as well, meaning that small B&M or internet stores, which are more likely to carry a wider array of models, are still free to set their own prices on those items.

The way I look at it is Victorinox can run their business as they see fit, although I do like truly free markets since little businesses can in fact, and do, compete with big business in the long run. Wal Mart is a prime example of that since many people refuse to do business with them once they became such a monopoly and their customer service got so bad.

I still like Victorinox product and will continue to buy if it fits what I want.

Don´t panik - time will show. Victorinox/Wenger has this fixed pricing here in Switzerland - doesn´t matter where you buy it´s always the same high price (in a shop round the corner or in a Tourist Hot Spot) BUT if someone big is coming (Largest Supermarket Chain here) you get several Models a little bit cheaper (which is for Switzerland a big thing). So let´s see who has the special Priced Editions in a year or so in the States ;-) or Mr. Elsner (owner of Victorinox/Wenger) is rethinking it´s Sales Politics after learning that Customers are different from one country to another

Let them do what they want. They make nice little knives but if the prices get too high, people will buy something else.

Lol I just wrote a big long post about this but it took so long I got logged out and my post was lost.

Anyway, what I was going to say was that if the distributors had beaten their competition (the dealers) by having prices so low that the dealers couldn't compete then they might raise their prices afterwards (because they no longer have to offer competitive prices) so they could make more of a profit like I'd assume most companies would like to. So whether it be then or now we'd be stuck with paying higher prices. So this move by Victorinox would simply be a pre-emptive strike assuring that their dealers come out on top.

This is assuming that the distributors would eventually raise their prices though, if they weren't going to then this just plain sucks for the distributors and us because the distributors can no longer sell Victorinox products and we're stuck paying higher prices. So I guess all we can do is hope that the prices don't get too high.

Like SAKnives said though, "...if the prices get too high, people will buy something else" and then in time Victorinox will lower it's prices to stay in the game and we'll be happy with our low prices once again.:)

Still sucks for the distributors though...:(
