I think these ones will be even more fun to do than the last one. An Imacasa 10" Coa, Imacasa Burriquito, and a Tram two-handed cane machete.

So without further ado, here are the "before" pics! Hopefully I'll be able to get to actually modding them up sometime in the next few days.

Burriquito--this thing has a REALLY chunky handle--gonna' have to fix that! :D:

Now the Tramontina two-handed cane machete...This one will probably be the first to be modded. It has some real nice curly-grained wood for the haft.:

I don't quite have that any, though it's getting close! I'm not holding onto these ones though. ;)

I do love the look of cane machete's.

A very practical design IMO.
Could use one here on the ranch. I see one in my future.:)

I like the broad blades of cane machetes as well. As you can see, one of the mods I plan on doing is a re-profiling of the blade shape, opening up the hook a little, and producing a functional point on the blade as well. Not only is the point handy, but there will be a crotch between the hook and the point that can be used for pushing brush out of the way without having to use your hand or bend over (particularly useful with thorny plants).

Very cool. I am moving in August and I can't wait to get my shop/forge set up again and start working on these kind of projects again.

Update: In progress pictures!

I did a bit of work last night and here's where they stand now.

Imacasa 10" Coa with hook opened up for better clearance for general use (shown with removed section of hook for reference):

Tramontina Two-Handed Cane Machete (heaviest mods--so far--here) The hook has been opened, and a point and crotch made:

The handle reduced at the upper portion for greater ease of use in a choked-up grip:

Grip shifted back for more reach or chopping power:

Choked up again, but showing the whole handle:

Flushed tang:

Yes! The point has clearance! You can cut, jab, or drill with it without having to angle the blade in weird ways. :)

This is just the beginning.

42B - I like that Burriquito:thumbup:. Do they make that with wood grips too?

They don't....but I do! :D

I've got some nice marine grade teak ready and waiting for it. Like my last mod project these are all destined for the exchange forum when I'm done--though It's going to be hard to part with these ones! In fact, the cane machete is really growing on me--I'm gonna' have to do one of these up for myself. :o

I'm looking forward to seeing that...

Hi FortyTwoBlades -

That sounds very useful - that would work great on the briars and wild roses in the scrub around here.

Thanks for the pictures.

best regards -

I sanded and oiled the handle on the cane machete the other night. I'll post pics later today. It's looking sweeeeeeeeet. :P

In all seriousness it's kind of turning into my dream woods chopper. I'm definitely going to get another one the next time I make an order so I can make one for myself.
