Just have to vent

My knife clipped to my pocket. Sodbuster, barlow, etc bumbling around in a pocket somewhere. I am a knife knut but someone who just needs to cut something might not be (hence them asking to borrow my knife in the first place) and you never know if someone will respect something you loan them. A $15 Sodbuster can be replaced anytime. Not so with a $300 whatever.

Sorry, didn't mean to preach at you. That sucks and I hope your 0560 turns up.

Bittersweet. Picked up my new 0560 tonight. I love it, just wish I had 2 now.

now put this one on a chain and get a bright green scale so you can see it from a mile away

This is EXACTLY why I've installed gps trackers in all of my knives.

Where did you buy the new 560 from?

Only time I share a knife, and that's as rare as a freak'n
albino sasquatch

Sorry...I gotta steal this for my sig line quotes...

Like all/most here I carry two knives at all times...and I'm not loaning either of them...with that said your friend needs to @ least help defer the cost of your replacement.

I never loan my knives unless I'm standing right there...and in most cases I just do the work myself.

I do however carry a box cutter just in case I have to loan and leave. Its a fairly cheap Kobalt ( I hate Kobalt..just letting everyone know ), but its good solid construction and I like it. I'll still throw a huge fit if it gets even dirty by the loanee.

Even if you don't ask him to pay or replace the knife you should make him aware of the monetary value involved. This might just make him be more careful with other peoples property in the future.

Got it from a dealer in my area. Well really the only knife dealer in my area. This one will never leave my sight, now I just need a new scale, I was leaning towards a CF but a very bright colored one might be better in my case.

Yep, make the guy feel like crap...at least for a little while. I dont know where people get off not caring about other peoples property. I dont care if it was a used condom or a one of a kind pocket nuclear powered coffee maker... the guy borrowed it and lost it, he should do something about.

Sorry to hear about your 0560. I would be pissed to say the least. As far as your friend goes. You are thinking how much the money would impact him, which is commendable. As far as I'm concerned, a good friend would feel bad and guilty that they had a hand in losing something. A good friend would be concerned with the value of the item he lost...and once that good friend found out the value of that knife, would make some kind of effort to replace it...be it partial due to financial hardship or letting you know he would replace it over a period of time. Just the offer to do so would be what counted.

I hope you find it.

I agree with adrenaline ,you are definitely a good man for the way you handled the outcome. You thought of how it would be a deeper hole in the other guys pocket and to ease the pain of losing it you bought another right away. Not to make the man feel bad but I too think you could let him know how much the knife meant to you, how much it cost, and how you felt when it was lost...then quickly crack a joke start laughing after he's had time top think so he doesn't start crying ask over your new shirt.

I too, am sorry for the lost piece. I've yet to lose a knife, even though I often loan them out to trusted friends. To be fair, I don't loan out any high end blades, those pretty much stay home. However Skylines and the like often end up loaned out as little tractor beams for friends to realize that they could really use a pocket knife.

Anyway, cheers on your handling of the situation. I'd have dealt similarly, as I've never been comfortable demanding money from a friend or coworker for an accident like that. Luckily, my own absent mindedness is treated the same. At the end of the day, the guy clearly didn't mean any harm, and perhaps one day the same good will will be extended your way. :)

Oh and I need to find a dealer in my area :p

I did let him know how much it cost and how pissed I was. I could tell he really did feel bad about. I wish there were more dealers in my area, he has a very limited selection. I got a really good deal on the new one though so that helped ease the pain as well.

+1 on this out look. No one was hurt here no malice was intended. It was just a knife, yes a spend y one which...OUCH!...but just a knife.

I am definitely not a touchy/feely kind of guy but hard ass attitudes cause conflict and the world needs less conflict. Fair warning though, don't corner me with a harmful threat.

I don't understand the whole carry a second knife for other people's sake thing. I carry one knife and I don't lend it out. If someone needs something cut then they should be carrying a knife. Usually the person that needs something cut is the one that has asked me why I carry a knife so I let them take the hard road in finding out why. If I was going to carry something else for other people then I would carry a pair of those blunt scissors that kids have to use so they don't hurt themselves. Hand those to someone and let them feel foolish for not carrying a knife.

OP, it sucks, but it is a lesson learned.

I get why a lot of people are saying he lost it he should by it. If he would have offered to replace it by all means I would have let him. I am at fault here to for not keeping better track of my things as well. I am the one who let him borrow it. Was I pissed off about it, hell yea, is it worth me being a dick and demanding $200+ from a guy I know doesn't have that kind of disposable income, to me no it isn't. To me it was a expensive lesson learned. Maybe, in time he will offer to pay me back for it, but if not so be it. I can usually replace a knife that is lost or stolen, but I can't replace being an ass and causing someone else to not be able to pay their rent or bills or whatever. In the end it is just a knife, and it sucks but I can live with the outcome.

Yep, I feel for you Buddy...I work as a rigger installing large printers and we always have a few helpers that we heir (pickup from the labor pool/side of the road) as needed...none of them have a full time job and are always wanting to use my tools ... after loosing many I now have a strict policy ... none of those MF get to use my tools (and not ever my knife) ... just my policy after having been taken advantage of toooooo many times. Shame it has to be that way but it is my hard earned money that purchased them...Im just not gonna give them a chance to get theirs for free from me anymore.
