Just in Case!

Beautiful Cases, gents! Keep 'em coming! I'm a bit of Case collector, I have a few of the things. ;) I need to put together a group shot of all of mine at some point, but here are a couple.
I have a lot more than this, I very rarely take pictures.

I need to rethink this word, "couple."

Your post was like an Energizer Bunny. I started scrolling down through your pictures, and they just kept going, and going, and going....

What a fine collection, I mean, couple of knives you have!

I see that this picture is titled, Case Jacks:

Second row, bottom knife, black (G10?)-- what is that knife's actual name/size?

Thanks much.

Glad you like the '18 Ben!
Duncan, that Red Stag is likely from the 1950s, so up to 15 years before the U.S.A.s, and 20 years before the 70s dots knives.

Thank you Sir! I have a lot more Cases that I don't have pictures of. But believe me, I am small potatoes when it comes to Case collecting. There are plenty of guys out there who put my meager accumulation to shame.

I believe the knife you're looking at in the image above is a black delrin Texas Jack. It's a nice knife, and very inexpensive. The knife directly above it is the same pattern, just in bone. Size is 3 5/8", IIRC. I like the "as ground" finish Case uses on the "workman" delrin knives. The Texas Jack is sort of an enlarged Peanut. But not as cool as an actual Peanut. ;)

Oh, okay. Thanks!

Interesting, how much different colored scales can affect the appearance (and apparent size) of knives within the same pattern.

I do believe there will be a Peanut in my future. The power of suggestion, so mighty.

For now, here's a better picture of my Tiny Trapper. This photograph still doesn't do the mediterranean blue justice, but it's better than the first one I posted.

I so love this color.

Here's an 8 dot (1972) 62052, Half Congress in mint condition. Great little knife. Pay no attention to the Menefee in the picture.;)

There have been numerous requests for a carbon steel Wharncliffe "Seahorse" whittler over the years, and Case has stubbornly refused to make it.
However, they did make a limited run of that pattern in ATS-34 a few years back.

I still think they should make it in CV or 1095! What are they waiting for???

Here's a mini-family tree of Cattle knives from Case.
The Great-Great Grandpa at bottom is a W.R.Case and Sons w. Rogers bone (a strange rough jig I have on another old Case), a Great Grandpa in the middle which is a Case Tested XX Greenbone, and Grandpa (my age) at the top, a Case XX Redbone.
Early Cattle knives had mostly spear blades. As the Stockman evolved from the Cattle pattern, with it's distinctive clip blades, the clip blade appeared in more Cattle knives.

The Cattle Pattern vies with the HJ as my favorite pattern - of course I love the Stockman too. And then there's the Barlow . . . . . . . . .hmmmmm.

This is a 1970 (10-dot) CV Case Barlow 62009 1/2 with red bone handles. It is a well used knife but has not been abused. There appears to be a scratch or crack on the scale on the Case XX bolster side but it isn't that. It is the beginning of a bone-marrow canal and there is evidence of another bone-marrow canal on the edge of the same scale. The backside scale clearly shows a bone-marrow canal going right up the middle of the scale and you can clearly see that the rear pin on that side was installed right in the middle of the bone-marrow canal.

This is another CV Case Barlow 62009 1/2 with red bone scales but made between 1940 1964.

This Case 6392 Stockman is built on a 4" frame. It is a 9-Dot (1971 Manufacture) knife and is 4" long. The shield is pinned and the liners are nickle/silver.

This CV Case 6347HP Stockman is from the 1940 - 1964 era. The bolsters and liners are nickle/silver and the shield is pinned.

Nice Redbone collection, Ed!! Those are some of the greatest patterns!!

The top one I have had about 30 years. My dad gave it to me for hunting. I've used it to dress game from squirrels to deer. The last time I cut anything with it was my last deer many years ago.

The others are much newer.

Thanks Charlie. I have a few more. I think red bone is my favorite cover for a knife.

Great job and great knives and pictures to all of you guys posting in this thread.

I'm too new at this to have any old Case knives. My only older guys are Schrade, Colonial, and Böker. The only two Case knives I own were acquired within the past two weeks. A Peanut in chestnut bone, and a Kinfolks Sway Back Gent in honey brown bone. Here they are hanging out on top of my blue bird house.
