UPDATED: pics here!

My uncle recently passed and left me his collection of knives amongst other things, and while I plan on keeping one or two of his favourite field knives, he had a large number of "safe queens" that have never been used and therefore don't really have any meaning to me. I don't have much use for a lot of big knives here in downtown Toronto so I thought I'd see if I can sell the rest and bank the proceeds for some hunting and fishing trips with the boys when they're older, I think my uncle would have liked that.

I checked around online and it looks like Bladeforums is the place to sell knives (I bought a Gold membership but it's not showing up on my profile, not sure why?), but my problem is I don't even know what I have here! There were a couple knife entries in his safe manifest so I know I have the following:

  • Busse FBMLE (huge)
  • Busse NMFBLE (also huge, not sure which one is which though)
  • Zero Tolerance 001 (very black)
  • Microtech Trodon (never seen anything like it, it's like a switchblade that comes out the top)
  • Chris Reeve Aviator (looks like a single piece of metal with a hollow drilled out of the handle)

The rest have brand names on the blades/sheathes but I haven't had a chance to go through the various manufacturer websites to match them up with their models, hopefully the ones in question are still being made.

Anyway my question is, is there a recommended way here on Bladeforums to go about finding out what knives I've got here, and what a fair price should be for each? Hopefully I'm posting in the right forum, thanks for taking the time to read!

Oh and if you can post pics it would make things very easy......and some of the larger/rare busses can go for $1000+

very lucky to have a uncle with that nice of a collection. personally I keep everything that is passed down to me just for sentimental reasons, and Id give the busse's to your kids when they are old enough.

a hunting trip last a week the knives will last for there life time and there kids life time.

just my .02 but if you insist on selling these, Id post pictures of the collection and us knife nuts could tell you the model numbers and price range real quick.

Just so you will know, your Gold membership is active, you just need to go into "Settings", then "Permission groups", click the dot by "Identify me as a member of this group" on the Gold line and save.

If you are Gold, then you can post pics in the Busse forum, and folks can offer price advice.

Yes, you must do this before anyone can give you prices.

And this, post about the Busse's there.
Pics will help.

Do you know if your uncle was a member here, and what his forum ID was ?
Sorry to hear about the loss of your uncle.

There will be plenty of people here willing to help you out.

Please go to the "Good, Bad and Ugly", or just ask around here before you sell anything to a "Dan Huang" or "Liu Kang". He has been known to contact members off site.

Hey, I would be interested in buying a nice microtech from you! The Troodon like you have is called an "OTF" (out the front knife) and if you have any other microtech OTFs I would be interested!

Much appreciated,

Mason

Your uncle was quite an enthusiast. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if he was a member here at one time or another. I've met few people outside this sight that new ZT and Busse, let alone Chris Reeve. Then again he could be one of the few that just kept up with the Knife rags, and went to knife/gun shows. Still you've got some real gems. I'd hang onto them personally, but to each his own.

Hold on folks, let the man get settled in before the offers start flying. This isn't the Exchange.

Go to the Exchange and search other sale threads. Best way to find the going prices of various knives. There is a specific Busse sub forum: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/804-Busse-Swamprat-Scrapyard-Knives-For-Sale, a custom forum: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/748-For-Sale-Custom-Knives-(Individual), and production folder/fixed: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/892-For-Sale-Production-Folders-(Individual) and http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/891-For-Sale-Production-Fixed-Blades-(Individual). Dig through there for a little while and figure out what other people are asking for your knives before you start posting for sale threads and accepting offers.

Take your time, they will only get more valuable as they age would be my take. And be aware there are some folks that would try to take advantage.

Hehe. Ask any parent to choose between golden memories with their children and a $1000 knife.
Unless you've seen parents keep pictures of their possessions instead of their loved ones... ;)

I'm sorry for the loss of your uncle. He left you a fine collection. If you're not hurting for money I suggest you keep them as they will only go up in value plus once you learn how cool they are you'll kick yourself later for selling them.
