Your uncle spent a great deal of thought, time, effort and money accumulating that collection. Don't get in a hurry to get rid of things that meant a lot to him. You might regret it later. No matter the money, it would be almost impossible to recreate that collection spending 10 years and 10 thousand dollars before you get done.
There are some good reasons he choose those knives. At least give him the respect of learning their strengths, weaknesses, the difficulty involved in sourcing some of those models.
He put a lot more time into that collection than you will spend hours hunting on any expedition you choose to make on this continent.

Aww man you had to be a bummer (well more than the unfortunate circumstance of the death in the family)... You raise a good point though. Many for the knives in that collection were definitely chosen for a reason (I feel like they all weren't hand picked, at least a few had to be impulse buys or trying out the steel/lock/style). It could be viewed as a bit of a disgrace to take his passion and throw them out for a few bucks.
