Just inherited a bunch of knives, I don't even know what they are!

Thanks for the sentiments guys, Bud lived a long and great life and was out there hunting whitetail, pulling bass out of the ice, and shooting pheasant right up to the end.

It sounds like pics would be helpful in identifying these blades (no surprise there!), I'll get them out of storage today and get pics of the lot. I'll post them here unless advised to post them in a more specific subforum.

Thanks again for the kind words and advice!

Sorry about your loss friend, your Uncle had very good taste in knives. One word of advice is to figure out exactly what you have. It sounds like you may have a small fortune in knives, and I'm sure some may try to take advantage of your lack of knife knowledge so just a heads up. Take it slow and try to figure out what you have:thumbup:

TAKE MY MONEY!!!!!!! Seriously though congratulations on the score and sorry for your loss, I just hope one day my son/daughter will inherit and awesome collection.

Very nice knives indeed. Sorry for your loss of what sounds like a really great uncle.

Go slowly and with great caution. Thieves await you among these very nice people.
Of course I've been robbed before...legally.
The previous posts have been very good about recommending action for you to follow.
Don't screw it up. The RevDevil (above) is a mod and a great guy. He can guide you further if you need.

As others have said, you have a nice collection there. The Busse's are traded pretty actively on this forum and there is definitely a market for them. Best place to post is on the Busse subforum. Take a picture and post it and any number of people will be able to identify specifically what version of the various Busse models you have.

Whether you want to keep these knives or sell them is of course entirely up to you. However, know that you have some high qualilty knives that, if properly cared for, will last a life time and still be in great shape to pass down to your children.

Ok, I took pictures of the ones I'm planning to sell right now (I'm letting his hunting buddies have their pick of his 50+ antique folders so I'll likely have more coming soon!), I did a little research and I think I have the makes and model numbers figured out but please correct me if I'm wrong!

That's the lot I'm planning to sell for now as I really don't have much need for really big chopping knives or military type stuff (although those balisong trainers look like they could be fun if only I could figure them out!). I'd certainly appreciate any corrections you folks might spot as I'm pretty good with Google but I don't know thing one about fancy knives like these so I'm sure I made a couple goofs, I'd be glad to post more pics if you need a closer look at a certain detail or whatever to make an identification.

Thanks again for taking the time!

Keep in mind the Microtech and the two balis are considered "prohibited weapons" in Canada and will be confiscated if you try to export them.

Oh great! Did the laws change or did ol' Buddy smuggle prohibited weapons into the country?

Actually I'm pretty sure I know the answer to that. ;)

You might want to just tuck that Microtech away somewhere hidden  that could be big trouble! Pretty sure the trainers are legal, though.

Wow very cool collection and I wish you would share some of his traditional folders with us as well before you sell them off!! Those can also be worth a pretty penny depending on what they are and by the looks of these knives your uncle didn't like cheap crap. I would figure out the value of those as well before you let them go.

Sorry to hear about your uncle. Looks like he left you with quite the collection of knives. I'm in Canada and am very interested in the microtech trodon if you still want to sell it.

Thanks
Tim

Sorry to hear your uncle passed away. When you are ready to sell be sure to post in the Canadian exchange so we can get first dibs.

I also suggest keeping those knives. Getting the rare models authenticated couldn't hurt either (especially with customs and semi-customs). If you need money sell off more common production models (particularly ones currently in production with no plans of being halted), but try your best to avoid wasting the pricier stuff. Sure, a hunting trip now would new nice to have, but how about a (insert expensive activity here) in 10 years? Maybe you could go skydiving in a few years, or have a cross country road trip.

Also, this aspiring knife collector accepts donations... Just kidding. Unless you want to...

damn you were left some very nice blades.

not gonna lie I thought this thread was kinda fishy at the beginning but I eat my words.

Bravo sir

Your uncle spent a great deal of thought, time, effort and money accumulating that collection. Don't get in a hurry to get rid of things that meant a lot to him. You might regret it later. No matter the money, it would be almost impossible to recreate that collection spending 10 years and 10 thousand dollars before you get done.

There are some good reasons he choose those knives. At least give him the respect of learning their strengths, weaknesses, the difficulty involved in sourcing some of those models.

He put a lot more time into that collection than you will spend hours hunting on any expedition you choose to make on this continent.

Joe
