Just lay it on me.

So, I own a ZT0801, BM940 and a Spyderco Sage 1.....Who cares, right? Here is my question.....do I really need to experience the pride of ownership and fine craftsmanship of a Seb21? is it THAT much better than what already serves me well? I know this is a silly question to ask in the CR forum, but just like in the post-armed robbery scene in one of the Dirty Harry movies...I just got's to know.

The knives you currently own are all excellent and will serve you well, possibly for the rest of your life. However……….

As you said it is about pride of ownership and wanting to experience something special. The Sebbie is a special knife and if you find it is not for you, the great thing about them is how well they maintain their value.

Buy one, try it out and experience it for yourself.

The thing that I regret was I’ve bought many folding knives before buying CRK Sebenza 21.

So, get the Sebenza bro..!. You won’t be disappointed (but poisoned as it’s very poisonous)

Personally I was "grounded" the first time I held a Seb21. It was a great knife, but it not something thats not obtainable with other knives. a 50 dollar knife compared to 150 dollar knife is quite a jump in quality, but comparing quality knives to CRKs it definitely a lot more subtle. There's a lot of 'mystery' around sebenza's ( "you have to have one in your hand to understand" or "you need to use it a while to appreciate it" or "completely unlike anything else" ) are said a lot when talking about sebenzas, which leads to a lot of hype of being something 'magical'. Its hard to defend a sebenza without using that sort of hype or overly exclaiming ".0001 tolerances" when tight tolerances and quality material/craftsmanship are becoming way more common nowadays and companies are doing it for hundreds less. people get overly defensive about CRK's comparing ZT's and BM940's to KIA's, My Zancudo is a KIA, a much more real comparison is Cadillac s to BMW's. BMW may inch out a head in F&F to people with an eye, but still some people will prefer a CTS-V. Chris Reeve designed an awesome knife and makes dang sure they are built great, and offers the kick ass spa service. if you wanna spend the money to own one you probably wont regret it, but Southards, the new ZT's, and etc really are not that far behind. People will definitely try to sell it to you but Best advice you can take if your on the fence is try to handle a Sebenza than make up your mind if it is THAT much better than what already serves you well.

Do you need one? No, your Spyderco, ZT and BM will cut anything a Sebenza will. With that said, ia CRK is made so well that you can feel the quality in the build and it will be unlike any knife you've used before. Don't get me wrong, I carry a Sage 1 and a ZT 301 on a regular basis and I really like them but they simply don't compare to my lefty small Sebenza.

As I said, you don't need one, but if you try one you will understand what they are all about. I'd also suggest that a CRK might not replace your other knives but I'm willing to bet it will become your favorite.
What he said.

Meh, I used to have 2 smalls 1 large and 1 Zann..

He makes nice knives, but his warranty sucks... So you'll be afraid to actually use it... Not only that but in hand it does feel like a "gentlemens" folder...
In the sense that you wouldn't want to beat on it AT all... tho I will say the Zann can take a beating without a doubt...

Will I ever get another sebby?..
Maybe, as I do still like them for what they are... if I can get one at a great price, then sure..

Recently however I have gotten myself a Hinderer xm 18 3.5" and Ive never looked back.... This knife has replaced my whole EDC rotation.. all in one.. LOL

All i carry now is the XM-18..... it handles everything that I need and then some... its amazing ...

There is a thread going on in the general area - lots of interesting reading there.
Yes, for me it does.
That said, you have to find out for yourself.
I know people living happy without even knowing, but then if you know.....
Please let us know how you decided - that would be very interseting.

While there are a few lurkers on the forum, just trying to learn(I was one once), most of us have voted for the Sebenza with our $$$. If you like the style of the knife and are willing to pay for the bump in quality, you should try one out. Unfortunately you get diminishing return for increases in quality(increases in quality cost more and more) ., but I have not found any other knife with this quality for less money and I have looked long and hard.

Thanks guys, I know you have all read about a million of these threads, but using the examples of knives that I already own compared with your opinions of the Sebenza have pretty much sold me on it, as I don't have the opportunity to handle one in person at this locale.

I'm gonna have to step in here and call BS right now. CRK's Customer Service and warranty are nothing less than SPECTACULAR, and there's probably a hundred other guys that will stand behind what I just said. Because ONE person says their warranty "sucks", don't even let that phase you. For starters, CRK knives are so awesome, you most likely will never even have to have something repaired due to warranty. In the unlikely event something was defective, they WILL make it right. They take pride in their Customer Service, and it shows. You don't press 2 for English, you get an actual person! If you damage your knife because you did something you shouldn't have, well, that's your own fault.
I bought an XM-18 3.5 Spanto, and traded it the very next day for a Sebenza 25. And I don't regret it. The XM is a nice knife, but to ME, the Sebenza is more my style. And that's the beauty about this hobby - there's definitely something for everybody.

Sgt244, I'd be interested in hearing why you think their warranty sucks? I'm sure I'm not the only one, including the OP. Because there are WAY too many folks on here who not only think, but KNOW otherwise.

I am definitely not afraid to use my CRK. The only folder that I have that whittled wood and didn't develop blade play.

Those are great knives you have. I have had a BM943, Spyderco PM2, Caly3, Delica,... They are all gone now. Still have my small Sebenza witch I got a few years ago. I heard someone say that the knives you keep for over two years tend to be the ones that will be keepers. I appreciate & like my Sebenza more now than the day I received it.

There is a lot of quality that you can see and feel with a CRK, and a lot more you can't see.

Other knives aren't necessarily better or worse, but they are different. There is no other knife I know of that is made to the level the Sebenza is (and I am not including the 25 here). It may or may not do anything for you, but it is unique.

Well, it seems like you came out pretty strong in voicing your opinion which you obviously are more then entitled to do... Then again, you could discredit anything you say by the "fan-boyishness" about your opening statement...

Regardless, as you said this is a hobby in which there is "definitely something for everybody"... so I really dont understand why you jumped on me, just for voicing my opinion..

Along with that... I never bashed it or said they were garbage, I really do like the sebenza 21's and the mnandis are prob my fav. gentlemen folder out there..... and I even said I might grab another (maybe try a 25) ... in the future...
So before you get all up-tight with me, i'd appreciate it if you could relax a minute and understand all I was saying is that once I got the XM-18... 3.5" spanto.. it felt "substantially superior"... TO ME, as a hard use knife... maybe its only the added weight and feel of it that makes me think that way, but at the end of the day a knife is a knife, and a $20 kershaw skyline should in theory be able to cut everything a sebenza or XM will cut..

I know I'll be hearing about that line... from a lot of people, but it is the truth... I myself love blades... and own striders, hinderers,Al mars... ect..ect.. But I also own cheaper $25-$50 knives.. such as the spyderco delicas that quite honestly slice much better then the Xm... (even the slicer).. and better then any of my striders.... and I couldn't think of a thing that the delica couldn't cut then my XM or any sebenza...

Now, if you just enjoy the feeling of carrying a sebenza in your pocket.. (just as much I do with my hinderer).. then we can end the convo right here...

Oh, also... I never personally tried to send in seb 21 in for treatment or repair... but I have a friend that lives upstate that I sometimes hunt with... He's told me a story about trying to get his lg. 21 repaired... which was more of a nightmare... as he ended up having to pay for their "service".. after spending $400 on a blade.. you'd think they wouldn't pinch pennies..

BUT, what can you do?...

Well said, I totally agree:thumbup:

The difference over other well made knives is perhaps a subtle one but a difference is there. When you start to push the envelope on "well made" there is only so far one can go but CRK do take you there, IMO. :)

All that, just to say "I read online that the warranty sucks, so I am afraid to use a CRK knife. I have never had an issue with a CRK knife, or had to use the warranty."

Nice.

can u see and appreciate quality? I know a lot of people who cant so for them no. a pair of velcro shoes and a fake leather jacket works just fine for them. I hate almost all things cheap. not inexpensive but cheap. crk is a fantastic company if quality is what you have an appreciation for

Ive been around owned pretty much everything at the mid-tech high end production level. I love most great mid-tech and high end productions also. Yet still...anything and everything I buy especially at the custom level always gets compared to a SEB. Whether it's the QC or fit and finish. For some a CRK is not the end all be all folder. CRK set the industry standard long ago and has held onto it without looking back. Pretty impressive either way within any type of manufacturing.

I say go for it as well. You will never know until you carry one and use it your self. I bought a lightly used Sebenza 25 and have been carrying it for a week. I absolutely can tell the difference in quality from all of my other folders (BM, Spyderco, ZT). I think I will be keeping it. But like others have said if you have it for a while and decide its not worth the money you will have no problem re-selling. Some people will never understand dropping that kind of money for one knife. I have plenty of friends who are "knife" people and they think I am crazy. But it brings me joy to carry it daily and that is what matters.

Ah yes, here is another person that I have had the joy to get a reply from...

I really hope you have a WONDERFUL day my man!!

Make sure to leave your useless comments in other threads as well.. ...all this just b/c I voice my opinion about a knife.. Sometimes I wonder why bother to have an "open forum"...
