Are there knives out there that you absolutely love, except for one little thing that bugs you? I’ve been seeing a bunch of SHFs on here lately and I *really* like them. Except I think the insert for the reversible pocket clip is awful looking. I almost can’t get over how (to me) it mars a really good looking knife.

Well, there are two ways that other knife companies handle this, and I have to say that I prefer how Spartan Knives does it over the rest of them. You will see either an indented hole there without any cover at all, because the company is trying to preserve the ability for people to be able to put the knife into either pocket. Or, it'll be like other companies where they just say "Eff those guys who want to put this knife in the wrong pocket, this is a knife that strictly goes in your right front pocket." I have never enjoyed seeing the screwholes on the show side scale from companies that are the first kind, and I'm right handed, so have never had issue with the second companies either. However, having a tab that covers the mounting hole for the clip is kind of the best of the solutions that I've ever seen, and I enjoy it on my SHFs and Hinderers.

Yep, but I'm not as picky about the little aesthetics as you are.

I think the Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight is damn near perfect, but the ball bearing lock isn't as flippy as it should be. I guess the G10 versions are better in this regard?

I'm also a Swiss army knife (SAK) guy, and it seems there is no model that has JUST the right tool set, (can be solved by a custom order) and of course they refuse to use a blade steel that will hold an edge. (harder to fix)

My solution is to carry two knives: a SAK for the tools and toothpick and a locking folder for the good blade.

Too many good knives in the world. I don’t want to buy one that requires “fixing” right out of the box. Just like I’d never buy a house that wasn’t turn key.
If there are so many good knives in the world, why did you purchase this one knowing it had the insert that you are not happy with? Even with a turn key house , I’m pretty sure eventually you will paint. Have a nice day

I didn’t purchase it. My point is that this one feature is preventing me from buying.

I’ve lived in my house for almost 20 years and haven’t painted yet!

I have the fillers on my hinderers but they match the handle and don’t bother me at all. That looks terrible on your shf and should definitely match the handle. Why it doesn’t match is weird.

As far as your topic, yes. I absolutely love the les George vecp but I would prefer he did multiple blade designs for that model. I understand why he doesn’t but would love if he did. On the flip side though I’d have to buy more vecps. I guess I consider myself lucky to have the tanto which he said he would never do again.

I’ve been looking at pics of other SHF knives and some of those inserts match the handle. Or blade. Some are contrasting like the pic the one the OP posted. I personally think that one is visually interesting, doesn’t bother me in the least.

I have more of a problem with a something like an uneven tip. I recently bought a Spartan Blades Harsey Kukri and it’s perfect except the tip is ground unevenly. Sent it back and received another one with the same problem. Every time I pick it up, all I see is that uneven tip that points a bit to the left, drives me nuts

Yes. Knives with no sharpening choil. Well, sometimes it can still work, but actually the SHF is one in which the edge runs awkwardly into the plunge grind.

Here’s my take on most eye sores, I buy for functionality of a knife and if it suits my needs whether it be for collection or use. Most people don’t notice stuff like that, they admire the quality/build of the knife. I don’t mind those eye sores because they become the trademark/identifier of that brand and since I’m a lefty, at least consideration is given for off side pocket carry. So yeah, there’s many options to choose from for dedicated carry without the eye sores.
Besides, you’d probably not like them. They’re hideous.

My two key assumptions:

1) I have enough knives already that I’ll never “need” to buy another knife.
2) there are more knives available than I could ever buy.

Therefore, while not the only criterion, aesthetics are a disqualifying factor if I don’t like them. Obviously function, build quality, etc are also factors. But if I don’t think a knife lols good, I’m just not willing to overlook “minor” things. Especially at the price point I’m shopping at these days.
